Could I respectfully suggest a little peace and calm here, please?
Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 03:12 PM by non sociopath skin
The riots have been awful and I've been as appalled as anyone at the events of the last few night.

However, I've stayed quiet about them here because, like the police and politicians of all parties, I really have no answer for what's going on here, how it all started and why. Of course the priority is to use sound policing to ensure that the trouble is damped down and those guilty of crimes punished. But I would hope that once the First Aid has been done, all of us take a long, hard, realistic look at what we need to do as a society to minimise the possibilty of recurrence.

I would respectfully suggest that this process won't be helped by "humour" about the 32 -sorry, 31 year old - female, sorry, male teacher - sorry, classroom assistant - sorry, learning mentor - sorry "school worker" who ring-led - sorry, followed - sorry, might have been involved in the looting but who definitely proves what bad eggs all teachers are.

Please, folks, can we let the dust settle and try to be part of the solution, not part of the problem?

Thanks for listening.

1. "I really have no answer for what's going on here, how it all started and why."
Well that's the rub. There really isn't much explanation and justification for much of what went on other then pure unfettered greed.

And one result of that is a notable absense of any justification of the events from a fair few people who would normally try and explain and to some extent justify the riots. I think people are just utterly disgusted with what's happened.
