People see it a demotion. I don't know much about the CMS stuff at all but at least Lewis is shadowing something he's work on--he was PUSS of DFID when Gordon Brown was in power. That said, can he shake up the shadow role to be less political and more development-focused?

1. I'm more concerned about the ghastly Blairite Rachel Reeves

Who's shadowing Danny Alexannder.

Harriet Harman is now shadowing Culture so unfortunately she's the one assigned the task of stopping Jeremy Hunt from ruining and selling off the BBC.

You keep hearing Westminster insiders blathering on about Chuka Umunna but just don't see anything much with him other then bland careerism I'm afraid.

As to Ivan Lewis, I found this line in the new BBC guide to the shadow cabinet

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11494915#heading-9

Some put his reshuffle move down to a controversial suggestion he made at Labour's conference that rogue journalists should be "struck off".

3. ... and it seems that Stephen Twigg is predicted to be ...
... more Toby Young and Katharine Birbalsingh-friendly.

Can you remember when we thought he'd be an improvement on Portillo?

Me neither.

2. Ivan Lewis's PUSS wouldn't be any kin to Theresa May's, would it?

4. I'm not mad on Ivan Lewis due to some disgustingly RW economic comments he made...
but he may be OK on international development.

I'm more bothered by Stephen Twigg being Shadow Education Secretary. I remember him as a junior education minister in the Blair government, and he was altogether too Blairite, pro-academies, etc. for my taste. And I note that Toby Young just wrote of him:

'But short of Lord Adonis himself being brought in to replace Andy Burnham, I don't think proponents of the Coalition's school reforms could really hope for a more sympathetic Shadow Education Secretary. Twigg really does seem like a sensible, intelligent fellow who shares many of Michael Gove's priorities'

Yuk.

Of course, anyone's got to be better than Gove 'n Gibb; but I think Labour could do a lot better than Twigg.

5. he's marginally ok
He knows DFID, he's been there unlike Harman who struts around saying that if men are in power, they won't care about women's issues. So is Harman is looking at CMS now, does that mean she wants more women in the Olympics team, more in acting etc etc?

Former MEP, and he does seem to be very much the loyalist, but then again what do you expect from somebody getting promoted in the Labour party?
