Can't wait to see who Cameron has total confidence in next.

Oliver "Trashcan" Letwin, maybe?

Interesting times.

1. I think it was inevitable
The story started off looking like much ado about nothing and developed into a full blown nepotism scandal, with just a little hint of innuendo.

2. Or if you read Private Eye or watch Mock the Week ...
... a bloody great whacking dollop of innuendo.

Bye bye Foxy. Bye bye, Mr. Wewwity.

:hurts:

BTW, apparently the Mail fears there might be "homophobic elements" in the press. Well, who'd a thunk it?

I don't care what sort of private relationship they had, but I DO care about the sleazy cronyism. And the sheer idiocy.

I'm not saying Fox was a great SoS--he muckedup in many areas, but who's avaialbe to tackle Defence or will the person be a simple yes-man/woman Tory cutting Defence numbers left right and centre.

10. Charles Moore in the Torygraph is scared that Fox's departure could threaten his hero Gove
Edited on Sat Oct-15-11 03:02 PM by LeftishBrit
Read it and gloat!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/8827281/With-Liam-Fox-gone-Michael-Gove-will-also-be-weakened.html

Though admittedly even if Gove goes there will be plenty of educational reactionaries to take his place. If the Tories get really stuck, they could always appoint Twigg, after all.

14. So Moore is saying that 'good government' is by secret influence of unelected, unappointed cronies
Wow, that's the most openly anti-democratic thing I've seen in a British paper for some time. Moore is saying that all Secretaries of State need to be able to use secret advisers to bypass the civil servants who are appointed by an open process of merit, and also to bypass his fellow MPs who have been elected by voters, and then openly appointed by the PM to be junior ministers. Not even to use open advisers, but secret ones like Werrity.

15. It just left me wondering...
...if Charles Moore was one of those complaining loudly about New Labour's "sofa government" and use of SPAD's. If he was then he's a massive hypocrite.

He's wrong in any case. We need much less of the likes of Werrity, less Special Advisors, less think tanks and much more influence coming from Parliament. Unfortunately politicans don't seem to like that idea as it involves accountability.

11. Revealed: Fox's best man and his ties to Iran's opposition
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 04:02 AM by dipsydoodle
Adam Werritty, the man at the centre of the Liam Fox cash-for-access scandal, has been involved in an audacious plot to topple Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, it was claimed last night.

The self-styled adviser to Mr Fox, whose close personal friendship with the former defence secretary led to Mr Fox's downfall, has visited Iran on several occasions and met Iranian opposition groups in Washington and London over the past few years, The Independent on Sunday has learnt.

Mr Werritty, 33, has been debriefed by MI6 about his travels and is so highly regarded by the Israeli intelligence service Mossad – who thought he was Mr Fox's chief of staff – that he was able to arrange meetings at the highest levels of the Israeli government, multiple sources have told The IoS.

Liam Fox resignation exposes Tory links to US radical right.

David Cameron has been accused of allowing a secret rightwing agenda to flourish at the heart of the Conservative party, as fallout from the resignation of Liam Fox exposed its close links with a US network of lobbyists, climate change deniers and defence hawks.

In a sign that Fox's decision to fall on his sword will not mark the end of the furore engulfing the Tories, both Liberal Democrat and Labour politicians stepped up their demands for the prime minister to explain why several senior members of his cabinet were involved in an Anglo-American organisation apparently at odds with his party's environmental commitments and pledge to defend free healthcare.

At the heart of the complex web linking Fox and his friend Adam Werritty to a raft of businessmen, lobbyists and US neocons is the former defence secretary's defunct charity, Atlantic Bridge, which was set up with the purported aim of "strengthening the special relationship" but is now mired in controversy.

An Observer investigation reveals that many of those who sat on the Anglo-American charity's board and its executive council, or were employed on its staff, were lobbyists or lawyers with connections to the defence industry and energy interests. Others included powerful businessmen with defence investments and representatives of the gambling industry.

Was Mossad using Fox and Werritty as 'useful idiots'? Ex-Ambassador reveals how links made by 'advisers' set alarm bells ringing

The real reason Liam Fox had to resign was not a grubby little money scandal about firms funding Adam Werritty as he jetted round the world with the Defence Secretary. It was much more important, and much worse, than that.

Last Sunday, ‘friends of Liam Fox’ were letting it be known that the investigation of Werritty would bring up nothing scandalous.

These friends were widely reported as saying that Werritty’s funding came from those wishing to promote U.S. and Israeli interests to the British government.

Fox resigns: Police consider Werritty probe.

City of London Police are considering investigating Adam Werritty, the close friend of former defence secretary Liam Fox, for possible fraud.

Labour MP John Mann has asked the police to probe allegations Mr Werritty used business cards falsely claiming he was an adviser to Mr Fox.

At the same time a firm he set up was receiving money from several wealthy supporters, it has been reported.

12. How to gain a good job
Don't bother chasing after a good degree (2:1 or 1:1). Just cosy up with a Tory, get a 2:2, fake business cards and get to meet with top leaders and military officials without any need for security clearance.

Joking.
