The UK is using its presidency of the EU to push for fingerprinting on all ID cards across the EU, and also to push for bio-metric passports.

Alledgedly to conform with International standards, however international standards only require a digitised photo.

Even the US is not proposing this.

Is this the beginning of the EU's slide into police state in the wake of British suicide bombings?

2. If 19 billion is to be spent on ID cards i think we could stretch to more

than a tenner for investigating and addressing the underlying grievances within the Muslim community.

These grievances in no way justify murder, but it is from within these areas of disillusionment that the extremists poke around in, identifying, gullible, disturbed and probably outright nasty young men to recruit.

We might also wish to spend as much effort and money investigating worldwide grievances that draw young muslims towards the Wahhabi Sabtist murderous ideology.

We could possibly try empowering our Muslim leaders and communities, and giving them the confidence in Britain to identify and alienate any within their community that wish to do us harm.

And we could take a fundamental look at our relationship with the entire world. The twisted balances of power across the planet that fuels this nasty ideology.

Furthermore he wants to index and track methodically all e-mail, text, and phone data across Europe. I'm sure the terrorists will be using the word "bomb" etc in their correspondence. is that fingerprinting technology has never been scientific. That is it has been developed by police forces across the world, but no scientific study has ever been made in to the accuracy of fingerprinting.

4. They've already admitted that ID cards wouln't have prevented

last week's bombings. Fuck them. They can take me to court before I'll get an ID card, just as the other lot had to when they brought in the Poll Tax. So many people refused to pay it that I got a call from the courthouse saying that they weren't going ahead - they had so many people to prosecute that tjhe court would be clogged up.

Then the ID card will just come through the letterbox. Another thing they are proposing concerning fines, is the power to basically raid peoples banks or wages. If you owe a fine it will be taken from you like a tax. so there'll be no day in court, the ID card will arrive and you'll be billed through your wages.

The day that happens is the day we've all lost and i will swim out into the North Sea hoping to hit land at a more sane destination.

The statement made by the French interior minister, Sarkosky, suggests that the British government may not have been entirely truthful in its statements about what has been going on

Of course, Sarkosky may just be a liar as Clarke has more or less claimed but I do not see what reason he has got to spread malicious rumours. The French security services keep a keen eye on Islamic militants and this statement seems to be based on something more than gossip. They seem as dimayed as I am that the British governmemts response to a huge counter intelligence failure seems to be to a rush to impose draconian controls on the whole population of the EU. The Spanish suffered a far worse attack than Britain but as far as I am aware they have not asked for all EU citizens to be fingerprinted. Blair's government appears to be panicking in just the same way as those British administrations of the early 1970's when faced with the IRA bombing campaign.

Two of the bombers wereknown to the police, despite claims that they were “clean skins”. Shehzad Tanweer was arrested for disorderly behaviour and Hasib Hussain was questioned over shoplifting, both last year. The two were cautioned but not charged.

Police sources also admitted that the name of one of the bombers had emerged during a major anti-terrorist operation last year. But he was neither arrested nor questioned.
