UK soldiers face war crimes trial

1. They are being charged under the war crimes act,

the most up to date legislation on behaviour of soldiers.

There is no need to send them to the ICC, unless they are not taken to court in the UK. The point of the ICC was to allow the trial of people whose govt. refuses to try them.

Soldiers have been subject to courts martial from time immemorial, there is no change & nothing suspicious here.

I'd rather not have the feeling that justice, such as it is these days, will not prevail. But you're right, must keep the cynicism in check.

In Abu Ghraib it stopped with the squaddies. Very convenient. If the brass and the politicos knew about it and sanctioned it or just did nowt, then we should be going for them too.

Although it seems to be limited to uniformed men for now.
