Tinfoil from old Kit-Kat wrappers isn't very effective, you know. I remember buying and eating Marathon bars. The brain-washing techniques designed to make people forget this didn't work on me, because I'm wise to the International Jewish Conspiracy. Or is it the Persians? Someone doesn't want us to think about Marathon, anyway.

Incidentally, the same techniques have been depressingly effective at changing the pronunciation of the Milky Bar company from the healthily Anglo-Saxon "nesslz" to the surrender-monkey "nestlay". When I first heard that in a Milky Bar Kid advert, I was all "whuh?".

9. Got to be Twix

Used to be Kit-Kat but they screwed it up by putting the stupid new wrapper on it. One of the joys of a Kit-Kat used to be sliding off the coloured sleeve and sliding a finger nail down the foil to separate one finger of biscuit. As for the new gross Chunky version - what's with that? A word to the manufacturer: it's only progress if it improves something.

3. They're longer and thinner than all your confections. For many things longer means better - Conservative periods in opposition, bridges, steel rules, articles by me, penises (apparently), battery life in laptops - and thinner means better, with the obvious exception of Callista Flockheart. Someone give hat girl a Curlywurly. DIMENSIONAL AND NUTRITIONAL FACT.

19. Penny, Tupenny & Hapenny sweets

I used to get 25p on Friday for sweets. I spent 15p on penny sweets & the last 10p on something like poppets, super-sour balls, fireballs or a wham bar.

I would always make sure I had a suitable mix of quick sweets (chocolate mice etc), medium sweets (refresher sweets) & long lasting sweets (gobstoppers). Then sit in front of the TV with my sister & spin them out from 3:30 until dinner time, finishing that last one just before dinner.

About 10 miles from where I live there is a really good old-fashioned sweet shop where you get sweets from the jars weighed out for you. Magnificent! They also have a tobacconist counter but I avoid that one for obvious reasons.

a more sophisticated flavour all round. (it was 5p cheaper however which meant extra fruit salad) The difference being i think a hint of cinnamon.

30p mix up after the baths when a bairn = 10 cola bottles (sugared) 10 fruit salads, 10 blackjacks.

(blackjacks substituted for the occasional wham bar. They are so much smaller now)

Controversial, being a relatively late entry to the confectionery stall, and from the decidedly un-chocolately country of Sweden, but the stuff in the middle (I don't even know what its proper name is) is heavenly. Hard enough to make you think you'll crack your teeth, but melts in the mouth.

There used to be a similar bar called, I think, Sharps Buttersnap, but that disappeared about 30 years ago.
