Birmingham Senior Islamic cleric is told to resign by Labour MP

for saying "black is white":

The cleric, known as being a moderate voice, said he had seen no evidence that Muslims were responsible for the July London bombings and the attempted further attacks on the city's transport system two weeks later.

He also said the prime minister, Tony Blair, had told lies over the UK's reason for going to war in Iraq, and was not a "credible witness".

Respect today backed Dr Naseem's right to speak his mind. "It is indicative of the climate of fear that new Labour is trying to create that its representatives can call for individuals to be punished in this way for articulating views very widely held in this country," a spokesman said.

1. Quotes from Mr. Naseem

One of them, chairman of Birmingham Central Mosque Dr Mohammed Naseem, urged the Muslim community to co-operate with police but also vented fury at Prime Minister Tony Blair, who he called a "liar."

Dr Naseem called for the practices of law to be "open, independent and transparent."

He added: "That is not the case at the moment. Those who we have got orders from are not reliable. Tony Blair has told lies and in a court a liar is not regarded as a reliable witness.

"I am not saying the police are corrupt, but they are acting on orders which should not be allowed in a democratic country."

I think this cleric sounds fair, doesn't he?

2. Fair indeed,
Blair is, of course, a liar.

3. It doesn't really suprise me
the MP is a pro-war, anti-civil liberties, Labour career-politician, so obviously he'll support our Dear Leader no matter what.
