Brazilian's visa expired in 2003 (BBC News)
The student visa of Jean Charles de Menezes expired two years before he was shot by police, the Home Office says.

Officials said they wished to end speculation over his immigration status but added it was "not intended" to influence any investigations.

A passport stamp apparently giving him indefinite leave to remain "was not in use" on that date, added officials.

Mr Menezes, 27, was shot at Stockwell Tube station by officers suspecting him of being linked to the London bombings.

3. We'll probably hear soon how
the police "fixed" it to make it look like it had expired.

5. ROTFLMAO!
I have been SO tempted to use that but I'm just staying out of the main forums.

I also like "Coincidence? I think not!"

Makes one sound extremely knowledgeable, no?

6. Yes, it means I'm so "in the know"
I feel like going to LBN and offer conjecture as fact since I'm always right. :)

innocent the government were leaking details about his immigration status to get people raising eyebrows and talking about that. they know the British public so well and they are so slick at this game its almost admirable.

But then you realise it shows they have no morals and their only objective is power.

(I like the statement "to clear confusion about his immigration status" Confusion you fucking started for your own sick reasons HM gov)

7. It shouldn't be relevant one way or the other
I don't like all these conspiracy theories about the police, but I don't think that it's more acceptable to shoot someone if they were on an expired visa - any more than it would be more acceptable to shoot someone if they had made a false tax return, shoplifted, or done quite a number of other illegal but non-terrorist things.

Actually all these people screaming out that it's all a lie is also implying that it would justify the shooting if true. There's no need to prove that Menezes was (or wasn't) a saint. The police have admitted that he wasn't a terrorist. The question is how this cock-up occurred, and I'm reasonably sure it was a cock-up, not a conspiracy.

8. WE know that.
Try going out to LBN, GDP and GD and trying to tell THEM.

They grasp every bit of hearsay and use it to beat up those who refuse to speculate.
They call us fascist apologists and supporters of state sponsored execution for simply disagreeing.

9. Its not conspiracy its to do with the thoroughly decent British public who
will be horrified at the shooting but when they find out he was here illegally will fold up the Times slurp their coffee and go "Aah". And feel so much better about the bits of blood, bone, brain, snot and mucus on the floor of that tube train doorway.

(possibly) why he ran from the police.

13. That disclaimer you added: (possibly)
is what separates the hysterical panicologists from those who simply indulge in speculation.

The harm is not in speculation alone, it is when people allow their paranoia to disrupt the forum and then accuse and condemn others for disagreeing with them.
