McCririck slams PM at Cook funeral: London Evening Standard
Racing pundit John McCririck launched a scathing attack on Tony Blair for failing to turn up at the funeral of former Foreign Secretary Robin Cook.

Politicians to bid farewell to Cook
12 August 2005

Politicians from all parties will join the family and friends of Robin Cook today for the funeral of the former Foreign Secretary.

More than 700 mourners are expected at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh for the service.

Mr Cook, 59, died on Saturday while on a walking holiday with his wife Gaynor in northern Scotland.

He was pronounced dead after being airlifted to hospital in Inverness and a post-mortem examination later established that he died of hypertensive heart disease.

Impressionist Rory Bremner will be among the guests at the funeral and Scottish football legend Ally McCoist has also been invited.

1. That's right, I had forgotten that they were close friends.
Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if somehow McCririck's antics in Celebrity Big Brother aren't brought up by the tabloids because, well, that's what they do. As if somehow this would diminish Robin Cook.

2. Both Cook and McCririck have had substantial betting losses.
Cook once moaned that he had bet heavily on US ambassador to London William 'Stamps' Farish's 2003 Oaks winning filly Casual Look after her Epsom win and she only came in third....

3. Hmm -
that's why I always bet each-way.

Of course, I'm betting that my bets are always substantially smaller than Cook's and McCririck's.

The problem was that McCririck criticised not only Blair but everything that Robin ever stood for.

Some bloody eulogy!

5. Hmmph
I'm told that McCririck was once banned from every horse racing event in this country at one time, coz of his shady dealing
