Asbowatch VII: Turn it up loud
The battle against anti-social behaviour is still being waged around the country as the authorities try to crack down on bad manners, abusive conduct and irritating activities.

Over the past few months, the Magazine has been keeping track of some of the inventive uses local authorities and courts have made of the anti-social behaviour order - the Asbo.

There have been some pretty novel, sometimes bizarre, examples. This month's crop, below, shows that the battle goes on.

1.  be antisocial somewhere else.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 10:04 AM by oscar111
Antisocial is not LW. Antisocial is fascist.

LW is about reducing human suffering.

RW is selfish behavior and that ups suffering. Antisocial is same as selfish.
=====================
By definition, antisocial folks do not constitute good building blocks for a society. Prison is the right place for criminals who pursue antisocial activity. Want to assault? Prison is the right place for such folks.
==================
Do what you wish. As long as it harms no one else.

By definition, antisocial harms others.

2. Bad laws from Labour
ASBO's allow people to be criminalized for things that are not crimes,
and not based on a jury of peers but by judges. It is a heinous erosion
of the ancient system of law in the UK, and as much as Labour likes
them, they are a social erosion themselves.

There ARE cases i've heard of, where it seems only ASBO's work, but the
problem is that they are being applied across the board, and are a cheap
and dangerous mistake masquerading as social justice.

3. For crying out loud
It wasn't all that long ago that I was a kid (82 onwards) and I didn't act like a complete moronic asshole, and commit petty crime. You know why? Coz I knew I'd get a bloody good hiding from my parents.

Sorry if this sounds way too iliberal, but you don't need ASBOs to solve this problem, a clip round the ear or a kick up the arse will go a long way

4. Tut, tut, tut ...
Next you'll be suggesting that parents should start parenting instead
of just reproducing. Following on from that, you'll probably imply
that perhaps discipline at home is even more necessary than discipline
at school (for those who opt to attend of course). Increasingly extreme
measures like instilling responsibility will no doubt be alerted on.

I doubt you'll get much further than that as some bugger will start
calling you a fascist freeper supporter of deathsquads, etc..

With a bit of time & effort and PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY on the part of
the parents, there would be no need for even a kick up the arse as the
problem doesn't grow big enough to require physical conflict.

( :-) for the textually challenged)

(PS: And yes, the previous post was sarcastic so don't fret)

(Edit: Typo + rephrase as think I made up a word :blush: )
