FACTS ABOUT DEMOCRATS ABROAD



· Democrats Abroad was founded in 1964 by Democrats living in the U.K. and France

* The Democratic National Committee, the ruling body of the party, gave Democrats Abroad eight voting delegates in 1972 and in 1976, full state status was granted.
* At the National Convention, Democrats Abroad has the status of a ‘the 51st state’. We have 9 votes divided into fractions so that there is as wide a representation as possible.
* Democrats Abroad has country committees in 78 countries.
* As the official arm of the DNC, we carry out non-partisan voter registration as well as keeping members up-to-date with current party activities and we also relate back to the DNC the concerns of our members.
* Democrats Abroad has tripled its membership since the 2000 election.
