It was Shah Rukh who suffered from Asperger's Syndrome in " My Name Is Khan", but a few days before its release, the film's hero rubbed the Shiv Sena the wrong way.
After SRK's comments criticising the exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from the IPL, the Shiv Sena took the remarks to be anti-national, anti-Marathi and launched a verbal and physical tirade against the film, demanding it be banned.
"Shah Rukh should go to Pakistan if he wants to speak in favour of Pakistani players," said Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab, who led a protest to SRK's house, Mannat. "This is the issue of patriotism and Shah Rukh should not interfere in politics," opined another party leader, who seemed to take it to heart that Shah Rukh had been staying in Mumbai for years but "never spoke anything for Marathi (sic)."
When advance bookings for the film opened, Sena goons entered cinema halls, threatening people and ransacking theatres, even tearing the screen in some. Mumbai police provided security to halls scheduled to show the film, but despite police assurances, hall owners did not want to take a chance and many of them closed advance bookings for the film for some time.
