Immigration Moves Burmese Asylum Seekers to Nauru.
"A group of seven Burmese aslyum seekers has been moved from a detention centre on Christmas Island
to Australia's facility on the island of Nauru.

(snip)

The lawyer for the group says he is deeply concerned about their move to Nauru.

David Manne says the group can no longer access the Australian legal system while they make their
claim for asylum.

"They have now been cast off into indefinite exile to another country and another regime without
any guarantee of future protection" he said."

The Greens have been protesting about the threatened deportation of the Burmese, who are members
of a minority Muslim group known as Rohingyas, since they arrived in W.A. in August, but I can find
no record of Big Kim having anything to say on the matter.

There is a very interesting and thorough piece on the background of the Rohingyas on the Human
Rights Watch site. It's part of a longer document regarding the treatment of Rohingyas who have
fled to Malaysia, but very good info:

Isn't it good to see Howard and Beazley upholding those Australian values of a fair go and tolerance
in our name?
