Beazley Expresses Sympathy For The Wrong Rove

Federal Labor Leader Kim Beazley has attempted to express sympathy for Rove McManus, ahead of today's funeral for his wife Belinda Emmett.

But Mr Beazley has mistakenly called him "Karl Rove", who is the deputy chief of staff in the Bush Administration.

"Today our thoughts and the thoughts of many, many Australians will be with KARL ROVE as he goes through the very sad process of burying his beloved wife," Mr Beazley said.

"And I just want him to know that my thoughts and the thoughts of my colleagues are very much with him today."

This sums up Beazley perfectly - he's utterly clueless. Seems as if he doesn't have any idea who
either one of the Roves is. The ABC even broadcast him saying it - he won't live this one down in a
hurry.

He's got to go - fast. We need a leader who knows which end is up.

1. I actually thought it was quite funny...

We all misspeak, sometimes very amusingly. When it's a Labor leader though, I guess it's a crime against humanity and should be severely punished. I wonder how much press time, if at all, this minor mistake would've gotten if it was Coward who said it???

2. This is the second time he's done this

The first occasion was when he confused Reserve Bank Governor Ian McFarlane and Liberal MP Ian McFarlane. There was also that incident when he didn’t seem to know who Michelle Leslie was despite the fact that it had been the major topic of news in the preceding weeks and months

Kim Beazley is a politician way past his prime and he never should have agreed –and the ALP Caucus never should have allowed him –to resume the leadership in 2005. He just keeps making gaffe after gaffe after gaffe after gaffe and showing how uninspiring he is as a potential alternative. He’s essentially giving Howard a free run up to the next election and this nation can’t afford another term of that absolute creep –he’s already destroyed most of what used to be good about Australia

I’m generally not in favour of changing leaders so soon before an election but Kim, please go now. We need a Labor government at the next election and the chances of getting one with you at the helm are slim to say the least

3. I don't like Beazley but I don't see the big deal...

Seems as if he doesn't have any idea who

Since when has that been a crime? I know of the existance of both, but care to know very little about them as both of them are pathetic arsewipes. There's way more important things in this world than knowing which Rove is which....

4. The point is that he chose to make a public statement

about the death of a personality - he really didn't need to do it. A
statement written by a staffer would have been fine, but Beazley had
to go in front of a microphone, for the umpteenth time this week. And
he didn't know who he was talking about. This week's TV star could be
next week's international leader, and how would that look?

If a Labor leader doesn't know the difference between an Australian
television personality and an American Presidential adviser, it says to
me that he's completely out of touch with what's happening around him.
And as SocialDemocrat said (and it was also said by Alan Ramsay in
today's Herald), this isn't the first time Beazley has been very
publicly confused, and it's not good for a man who sees himself as a
future leader of the country.

This incident is in itself quite funny, but viewed in terms of a
political leader who should have his finger on the pulse, it doesn't
look good. Beazley had some sort of illness two years ago that affected
the stem of his brain, and you have to wonder whether it's had a lasting
effect, or perhaps has recurred.

Sorry, but I don't think Labor can afford to let him keep his current
job.

That must've sucked for Rove McManus. :(

I heard about his wife a few weeks ago from an Aussie friend of mine. I had started watching clips of Rove Live on YouTube some time before that. I'm sorry to hear about Rove's wife, and about Beazley's mix-up. I wonder what Karl Rove thinks of it.
