ACT Labor Senator Kate Lundy has criticised an amendment passed in Federal Parliament that means public servants travelling to and from work are not covered by Comcare.
Under the new amendments, both ACT and Commonwealth public servants are no longer entitled to compensation if they have an accident on their way to or from work, and during lunch breaks.
ACT Labor Senator Kate Lundy says it is a bad move, and says cyclists are just one example of workers who will be affected.
"People will just have to carry more risk on their own shoulders or face more expense to have themselves covered," she said.
But Liberal Senator Gary Humphries says these changes already exist in other jurisdictions.
"State Labor Governments in Victoria, South Australia, West Australia, Tasmania have already gone down this path," he said.
He says the changes will mean employers will have more of a say in matters relating to compensation claims.
