Another Good Poll Result for Labor.
Today's Newspoll has Labor polling on 59% to the Coalition's 41%, and that's post-Budget. Kevin Rudd
is on 49% as preferred Prime Minister, with Howard on 37%.

With all the screaming from the mining industry about AWA's, and talk of Labor perhaps having to
revise their IR strategy, I hope with this result that Rudd will stay firm. Of course big business
was going to kick up a fuss, nobody could have expected anything different. They've had it all their
way for eleven years, and of course they don't want change. It's time for the wheel to turn.

1. Smirky boy Pete must be in shock over the "dead cat" bounce
they got in the polls. Nothing, absolutely zip.
This means that they're back to plan "X".
Which is probably protecting us from invasion from the north.
Nothing like a good 'ol ship sinkin' to win votes.
Is there anything else they can scare us with?

3. It's back to "trade unions running the country if Labor gets in",
industrial unrest, strikes every other day, etc., etc.

I don't really think anyone but the fantatics will buy that; those days went out with Hawke and
Keating and they're not going to return. But Howard's doing his best to instil the fear.

4. Even the "union bosses" mantra isn't scaring everyone.
I smell desperation now. Anything could happen. It seems that a lot of people have woken up to the AWA con job and realise that when the boom slides the money will dry up and the first thing to be cut will be wages and benefits. And people know that the Howard gang has been looking after the big end of town at the expense of the little people. Got my fingers crossed but I believe they're on the way out.

5. I also think that when people see the board of Qantas
prepared to dump the airline to a consortium that will slash jobs and milk Qantas of 4 billion in
just a few years because they (the board) will make tens of millions out of the sale, they are
wondering what the hell's going on?

Then you have the head of Macquarie Bank on $33 million per year, while Macquarie claims it can't
afford to donate to charities, and meanwhile the lowest paid workers are having their pay cut, and
again, people are thinking something's going wrong in this country.

And in his latest budget, Costello gave over $7 billion in funding to private schools, while the
state schools got $3.5 billion - makes rather a mockery of the term "state schools", doesn't it?

This division in our society has been consciously and deliberately driven by Howard, and I think
people are starting to feel uncomfortable with it. Nobody wants to pay more tax than necessary,
and people are going to be concerned about their mortgage payments, but they also know when there's
a worm in the middle of the apple.

6. Did this get any traction against Howard....
.... from the MSM?

"....Dateline reported that Halliburton has also received Australian defence contracts without them going to tender — at least 20 in the previous four months."
