Mike Carlton has a wonderful piece in today's Herald, detailing the costs
of maintaining the Howards in the style to which they've become
accustomed.
"In all honesty, I have to say we've splashed out a bit on entertaining," confesses Janette, over a cup of Earl Grey tea served in fine Royal Albert "Old Country Roses" china by a butler who glides soundlessly across the shady terrace. Fluffy scones, scrummy chocolate petits fours and wafer-thin cucumber sandwiches complete an old-style English afternoon tea. "Hunting down a dining table was a major drama, but eventually we managed to find a particularly nice one, with chairs for 20 guests, for a very reasonable $82,000," she reveals, popping a hot buttered pikelet into her mouth with a tinkling laugh."

they're real, and they'll make your eyes pop.
