30 Years Ago - Frederick Valentich Disappears
Pilot Frederick Valentich, flying from Moorabbin Airport to King Island to pick up some crayfish, reported that a strange aircraft was "playing a game with him" and he wanted to know if any military planes were in the area.

Both men were puzzled as there was no known air traffic in the vicinity apart from the 20-year-old RAAF air training corp instructor's plane.

Mr Valentich reported that the unknown aircraft had four bright lights and had buzzed him a number of times at great speed.

He told Mr Robey the object was orbiting on top of him and "it's got a green light and is sort of metallic, like it's all shiny on the outside". Then it vanished.

1. Remember that well
Hey canetoad.

Yes, as a lad who used to spend summers down the Great Ocean Road (mainly Peterborough, but also Lorne and Apollo Bay), the story always fascinated me. Very strange indeed.

2. Hey Andrushka!
Yep, me too. I grew up in Geelong and spent a lot of time down the coast. It's strange that to this day there is no real explanation of his disappearance.

3. I also remember the incident.
They never found any parts of either a body or the plane.

I have heard that pilots all over the world regularly claim to see things that can't be rationally
explained, but air force officials and the bureaucracy will never admit to anything being "out
there".
