I'm wondering if this is an American phenomena or a First World one.

Do you have Chinese imports for just about everything you buy?

1. Yep
We have whole shops devoted to selling cheap rubbish - tools, nick-nacks, stationery, household goods, all from China. They smell of mothballs and plastic and are called something like The $2 Shop, The Reject Shop.

Most of the clothing and footwear sold by chain stores (Target, K Mart, Big W, etc) is made in China, generally from nasty synthetic substances.

And if you look hard or go to the right shops, there are some Aussie made items- though they are expensive.

3. It's not only the cheapos that come from China (and Korea).
Many big-name clothing manufacturers have their clothes made in China, imported back here and then sold on at
very high prices.

I don't like the fact that local workers are out of a job, and the Chinese workers are virtual slave labour. One
of those nasty things that western governments choose to turn a blind eye to.

4. Sounds like it is a world wide thing
Jobs in first world countries to China and then ship the products back to sell!
