High Court Upholds GetUp! Case
"Up to 100,000 more Australians could be allowed to vote in the August 21 election after the High Court today ruled that parts of the Electoral Act are unconstitutional."

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/08/06/2975602.htm

Antony Green is quoted as saying that the decision is likely to favour Labor and the Greens; it was probably Howard's intention to disenfranchise younger people when he passed the law in 2006. But that was four years ago, and there hasn't been a peep from Labor or the Greens since that time, and Julia Gillard had the writs issued just two days after she announced the election, thereby closing the rolls. There was nothing to stop her delaying the writs for a week; it probably would have been to Labor's advantage. Doesn't make sense.

Good for GetUp! We really need them.

1. three cheers for Get-up
I didn't think the petition had a chance.
Also yea for the internet. Those missives from Get-up (GU) come so fast.
I think it speaks volumes for the power of the digital age.
