The enterprise agreements for thousands of Commonwealth public servants have expired with the start of the new financial year. The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) says only 5,500 staff had new agreements in place on time, while more than 135,000 are still haggling over pay and conditions.
More than 57,000 public servants have now rejected the latest agreements put to them by the Federal Government.
CPSU national secretary Nadine Flood says staff from the Australian Tax Office and Defence are among the latest to reject the pay deals.
"The second and third largest agencies in the public service, being the Tax Office and Defence, have both resoundingly rejected enterprise agreements," she said.
"Employees in the Australian Taxation Office voted almost 60 per cent to reject their agreement.
