Carbon tax repeal could cost millions
A constitutional law expert has warned the Federal Opposition's promise to repeal the carbon price could cost taxpayers millions of dollars.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has pledged to scrap the laws, saying he will "oppose in Opposition and repeal in government".

But Professor George Williams says the carbon trading scheme will be well entrenched by the time the laws can be repealed in 2016.

And he says only the High Court will be able to rule if Mr Abbott can scrap the laws without paying compensation to companies which have made investments under the clean energy laws.

Greg Combet stood in the Parliament only a couple of weeks ago and said with a small smile, "He won't be able to".

Looks like he knows what he's doing.

1. I didn't know the Opposition has a mandate to repeal the Carbon Tax...
Liberal frontbencher Eric Abetz says the Coalition expects Labor to "respect the mandate" and join with them to repeal the act if government changes.

3. Too true,
but it's worrying just how many bozoes out there are sucked in.

It's Abbott in fact who proposes a "great big new tax" to fund his parental leave scheme. It will be levied on the biggest businesses, but no way are they not going to pass it on. Yet you don't read about it, and not a word from Labor on it.

The Coalition are hypocrites, but Labor is wet. They desperately need a new bunch of advisers, if none of them has enough political nous to take the fight to Abbott.

Perhaps they should hire Paul Keating ...
