1. I only just noticed that...
All three forums are Commonwealth countries. Pity that you Canadians don't play cricket because we could all band together and discuss Australia's vast sporting superiority ;)

2. bad violet bad bad violet
part of the reason I come to DU is that no-one mentions the worlds most boring game...apart from it's duel use as a Mogadon replacement cricket should be banished forever!

4. Oops!
It may well be the world's most boring game, but I only used to watch it to count the seagulls on the field. All I watch now is the highlights on the news, and it's much less boring when an entire day is cut down to a few seconds. It's the only team sport I can even tolerate. I hate every football code with a vengeance. And basketball. And netball...

3. They play cricket in Stanley Park
but I must admit, I believe it's mostly ex-pats. It looks pretty with their nice, white outfits.

5. I wonder why cricket never became big in Canada....
I mean, when you think about the positive (or negative for Djinn) cultural legacies left behind by the British Empire, cricket is one of the few I can think of...

6. Ahh cricket
... the greatest game of all, to play.

Boring as shit to watch, unless it's a one dayer.

However, on a blisteringly hot 40 degree day it's the only sport that's possible to play outdoors.

You know the game I really don't get? Gridiron.

10. I don't get gridiron either...
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 08:32 AM by Violet_Crumble
I only watched it once and I didn't understand it at all. A bunch of guys wear so much padding they look like Sumo wrestlers with helmets on stand around for ages, waddle a few steps or throw the ball, and then stop for ages again. Then again, growing up in a Rugby League stronghold, I've never understood Aussie Rules, which when it comes to the pace of a game, has to be the opposite extreme of gridiron...

7. LIES! Filthy LIES!
Any sporting superiority Aussie has is entirely due to more money and more people! If rugby wasn't so bloody commercialised and we had a team like back in the good ol' days we would CANE you EVERY time!

Wait, what am I saying? I hate rugby . . . must be genetic Aussie-hate.

But that being said, I'd like to pass on my thanks to your PM for drawing all the SE Asian terrorists' attention. I know *I* feel safer with Howard backing Bush.

8. Australian rules football rocks!
I used to love watching that on American tv. The refs look like gangsters with those outfits.

9. Now, Wols. . .
They ARE gangsters:
a) they're Aussies (couldn't resist, sorry)
b) only gangsters can control an Aussie Rules game.
