UK urged to speed up Hicks citizenship application
A British legal firm acting for accused Australian terrorist David Hicks wants to speed up the process to have him recognised as a British citizen. The application is being made on behalf of South Australian David Hicks, who is being held at Guantanamo Bay and is due to face a US military commission on November 18.
His mother is a British citizen, which means he can qualify for a British passport.

Alison Stanley from the London legal firm Bindman and Partners says an application for a Judicial Review is being considered to hasten Hicks's citizenship request. "The British Government hasn't got a choice in this," she said.

"This is a right. It's not a discretionary application. There's an absolute right by David Hicks to be recognised as a British citizen. "Once he's British then what we want is for the British Government to treat him in the same way as they treated the other British citizens."
