I received a notice from Democracy for America and from the DNC tonight requesting our help in raising the money to recount Washington state. Please help!
********************
I need your immediate help. You've probably heard about the extremely close race for governor here in Washington. Only 42 votes separate my opponent and me, and thousands of ballots across the state haven't been counted.
This is by far the closest race in the history of our state, and one of the closest the nation has ever seen. That means we must make sure that every single legitimate ballot has been counted -- and that means a statewide manual recount of every vote.
Washington state law requires the party requesting the recount to pay for it, and it will cost at least $750,000. The Democratic Party is committed to this recount, but they need your immediate donation today to make it happen. Please give today.
https://www.democrats.org/support/Let me put this race in a little more perspective. Out of nearly 3 million votes cast, only 42 votes separate my Republican opponent and me. That's a difference of 0.0014 percent. The error for voting machines is somewhere between 1 and 2 percent, or 1,000 times as great as the vote difference.
That means that this race is tied, and anything is possible with a manual recount. We must count every vote individually, and we can't do it without you.
https://www.democrats.org/support/Do not let this election slip through our fingers. We are only 42 votes away from victory in Washington, and we are confident that once all the votes are counted, we will win this race. Please help us reach this urgent goal by making a donation today!

Chris Gregoire

And this is from Tom McMahon at DFA:
Do you know what's been happening in Washington State? In their closest election ever, an initial recount done by machines turned up thousands of misplaced ballots that had not been counted -- the difference in ballots counted so far is just 42 votes out of 2.8 million cast in the race for governor.
We need to keep counting.
We have a little over 24 hours to request a hand count that will ensure that every vote is protected. But the mandatory state fee for the counting could exceed $1 million. The state party and Democratic candidate Christine Gregoire don't have the money after months of unprecedented get-out-the-vote efforts.
Will you help them pay the fee to protect every voter?
https://www.wa-democrats.org/contributeA recount isn't about counting all the votes again. A "recount" really means that we take a closer look at votes that were not counted the first time. In many cases, vote-counting machines can't read a perfectly good ballot -- a hand count means that those ballots will be looked at and, if possible, counted.
Our priority has been clear from the beginning: we need an electoral system that respects the sanctity of every vote. Before the election we blew the whistle on electronic voting machines and raised hell when Republicans tried to intimidate and silence people in poor or heavily minority neighborhoods.
Since November 2nd, we have worked to get every vote the respect and protection worthy of our democracy -- even if those votes will not change the outcome. We owe it to everyone who stood in line for hours, putting aside their jobs and families to be a part of our political process.
In Washington State we have the opportunity to make sure every single vote counts and potentially discover that the people chose a Democratic governor. The state party needs the money for the hand count in the next 24 hours -- please contribute now:
