Hi all, Just wanted to share this idea that came out of our DFA meetup last night which I thought would be of particular interest to you here.
Many counties and cities have Citizen Advisory Boards and committees. These boards and committes do different things -- make recommendations, receive suggestions from citizens, investigate things, etcetera. They are typically unpaid volunteer positions that meet once or twice a month. Now, here's the caveat: Depending on the board, and who the board is advising, they may or may not get a whole lot accomplished; obviously that's going to vary a lot. But you never know until you try.
Many of these boards make appointments in January. So I went and looked on my county's website, and they have... guess what... a CITIZEN ELECTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
Guess who's gonna apply? :D :hi:
So, now I'd like to call on everyone here in this forum. You are all obviously very interested in voting issues. Doesn't this sound like a really positive, productive thing to do? Please go google your county name and look around on their website. See if you can find the list of Advisory Committees. Is there one for elections? And, please come back to this thread and report. What did you find? Are you going to do it? Let us know.
Even if you can't do it, if you think it's a good idea, keep it kicked.
Oh, and one final request. Please do NOT post in this thread saying something like, "We need to do something NOW, not next year." There is NOTHING ON EARTH that is stopping you from doing something both NOW, AND NEXT YEAR as well. Mmmmmmmk?
