That means quite a bit to me right now. Gosh. I'm pretty amazed at how so many people can vote against their own economic/safety interests just by the mere mention of what I've heard referred to as the "3 G's."- Guns, God and Gays.

Yeearrrrrrgh.

9. thanks!
I'm in NC and Mr. cliberty and I worked hard down here. I phone banked, we both canvassed, we both worked early polls passing out flyers, and I worked as a poll observer yesterday starting at 6:15 am and did not get to leave until about 9:00 pm.

What strikes me as weird is that there are many northern transplants down here. My husband is from NY, I moved from Maryland. Does this mean the transplants have become assimilated? :shrug:

11. I wouldn't call it a liberal oasis
But Guilford County, NC went for Kerry by about 1,300 votes (about 0.5%). So yes, many of my neighbors are insane, but not most of them.

12. I don't know where to stand here in Indiana
I had to listen to a Repuke scumbag gloating over Bush's win to the proprietor of the local convenience mart who was all about Bush.

I wanted to ask the scumbag if he would be cheering on on the graves of his children who get slaughtered in Iran, while I have my heart torn out by having to send my daughter to some foreign land to stay out of the draft. I wanted to tell him to take responsibility for his choice, and send his kids to the military first, because it is his war, and the mayhem that is coming is his choice, not mine.

I wanted to tell the proprietor that I will choose not to do business anymore with someone that is trying to destroy my family.

But I didn't. I was burning with so much rage I knew I could lose it, so I just bit my tongue, and walked out of that store, never to enter again.

13. Bright spot here
Missouri turned redder. Not only did Matt Blunt win, they picked up seats in the House and Senate.
Yet, one little city is standing firmly progressive smack in the middle of the state.

Both pot propositions pass by a large margin

With the passage of two marijuana-related initiatives Tuesday, Columbia voters have placed the city on the progressive edge of drug-law reform in the United States.

<snip>

With more than half the ballots tallied, voters were approving Proposition 1 69 percent to 31 percent as of press time. The measure makes it legal for chronically ill patients to possess and use marijuana with a doctor’s consent. Physicians who prescribe marijuana to patients will no longer face arrest and prosecution.

<Snip>

Proposition 2, a decriminalization initiative stipulating that misdemeanor marijuana cases be tried in Municipal Court and punishable by a maximum fine of $250, was passing 60 percent to 40 percent.

Renewable energy measure approved
Columbians conveyed their support for limiting the city’s dependence on fossil fuels, joining a growing number of cities across the nation including Chicago; Fort Collins, Colo.; and Austin, Texas — by passing a renewable energy standard for the local power supply.

14. Thanks.
I stood at a 99% black precinct for the better part of the day yesterday and was so uplifted by the close-knitness and outrage at the current state of the government. Driving in, every house had K/E sign - and they had about 90% turnout. I felt so good when I left there.

I can only imagine what they are all thinking now... their choices for pres, senator, supreme ct justice all went down because fear won this election. It makes me very sad today...

17. As our Sen.-elect Obama said:
"We worship an awesome God in the blue states, and we don't like the federal government poking around our libraries in the red states. We coach Little League in the blue states, and we have some gay friends in the red states."

It feels great to be an Illinoisan today, if not an American.
