What is a "conspiracy vote?" What's another name for it?

Some astute DUer here can provide the name of the Repub. congresswoman on Olberman after the report on today's Conyers hearings, and she said that the hearing is bogus, we can't accept that we lost, and that there aren't enough "conspiracy votes" to reverse the outcome.

And that stuck in my head. It occurred to me that that it sounded like the linguistic product of one certain outfit, and that the talking points were clearly 1. hearing bogus, 2. sorelosers, 3. "conspiracy" votes.

So...what do you think they are? And how many of those do you think there were?

I didn't catch her name. But it was a really odd phrase, a recount would pick up the spoiled ballots that a machine can't read for some reason, and would check the things like Kerry votes flipping to Bush, which was already documented on a lot of machines. I don't think of a spoiled ballot or a computer "glitch" as a conspiracy vote.

The more they use phrases like that to discredit the concept of election fraud, the more I believe they really don't want us to count the votes for some reason.

2. She refered to "ghost" voters. That's a real name for dead people who

are still on the voting registration roles and a fraud perpetrator uses their registration to send someone in and vote. I didn't catch her name, but it would be easy to find because she's a Republican on the House Judiciary Committee. A few minutes on Google should find her for you. And yes, the Republicans are highly disciplined on sticking to their talking points which are worked out in advance and distributed from the leaders. I read about one instance (think it might have been a campaign thing) where they had a phone number to call and get their daily talking points off of a recorded message.

Welllll, let's hear it for honest representation of one's own constituents and doing what is best for one's home state. Here I thought repubs were big on state's rights and small government. Instead, they centralize and all bow down to an organized, national drummer. They sacrifice true state representation for the crumbs they're fed to keep them obeying their overlord.

On the good side they do have coherency which is hard to underestimate how powerful that is since what happens is the average jane gets hit with the talking points of the day from multiple sources and pretty soon the "learn" them and "believe" them. Hooligan....I think that is the Frank Luntz piece. I was listening to an interview on PBS this a.m. I don't think that I realized that he was that imbedded in the GOP. He was orignally a GOP pollster....he is the one that does all of the tv focus group things. He defended his methods to the hilt. I was pretty disturbed when I listened to him this morning. This is propogandizing and manipulation of our citizenry to the max. We are being used and abused by these folks and I am not sure how we can fight back.

It's not surprising as I've heard many of these statements from the Idiot in Chief himself. I also noticed how FOX News always posts a "War on Terror" graphic when they are covering the Iraq War, whereas most other networks use a "War in Iraq" graphic. (Except the Daily Show, which uses a graphic that says "Mess-o-potamia.")

3. A "conspiracy" is a well crafted term Karl Rove has used to

dis-credit truth against republicans. He used that word in Texas to get the Chimp his Gov spots. Any time an AWOL story came up during those campaigns, Karl successfully prevented the media from running the stories by labeling them (and the reporters) as conspiracy nuts. He has taken the term to the national level now. We need to get the media to understand that FACTS are not conspiracy theories and we that report FACTS are not conspiracy nuts. Any time you hear a Republican use that word, replaced it with truth.

and they usually sound catchy but lack substance. I think you were right on in your 3 point appraisal above. I was offended by her. I kept thinking, "conspiracy votes"? What are those? Personally, I don't think that they exist. I don't know any "conspiracy voters" who went to cast "conspiracy votes." I know plenty of voters who went to vote thinking that it mattered and would be counted...only to find out that wasn't the case. People who thought that they had the power to effect change in their government by way of a VOTE. A plain old vote. Think about it, what is "conspiracy" loosely it is something theoretical, possibly untrue, or yet to be proven. I think the actual definition is something close to a plot, scheme, or plan. How do any of these words fit with voting. Except of course, the effort to plot, scheme, or plan against the voters? Beats me. What do you think?

I think that they start these spin offensives by sending out the smaller fry (who are delighted to be asked!) to start sowing the talking points.

As the story progresses, if they need to change or fine-tune the message, they can use other minions from the press or Congress to put out the improved message, and they can move up to people of higher stature if need be.

This way, they test-market the talking points, and can jettison the ones that don't work so well, and have the necessary insulation from being associated with messages that might get bad reactions.

But they're definitely releasing the flying monkeys. "Fly, my pretties! Fly!"
