I saw Brian in Boston a few weeks ago and the show was fabulous. he does about 3 roughly 45 minute long sets. The first is BW solo and middle - period Beach Boys stuff, the middle is "Smile", and the last part is early Beach Boys hits. By Brian doesn't have the range he did at 18 but his huge (18 piece) band cleverly fills in what he's missing.

As for me, I went to the gym and lifted weights until I was exhausted. I'm not feeling as depressed now.

8. I stayed home

I live in an old house -- probably 1930's. And, I swear, the original wooden screen door is on the back door still. It slaps every time someone comes in and goes out. The sound reminds me of summers in my childhood. I love that sound, and everyone knows they'd better never mess with my screen door.

I know this sounds so flakey, but I really think its time to at least discuss this. Here's a copy of my letter.

On November 3, 2004 George W. Bush was elected to a second term in office as
President of the United States, culminating what has been a downward spiral
in American affairs that to my fifty plus years began with Ronald Reagan.
During this period, we have watched as American policies began to lean
farther and farther toward the conservative spectrum. The only political
party which attempts to represent those citizens with a more liberal and
humanist frame of mind determined that the only way in to the White House
was to compromise its own beliefs in an effort to match the growing rightism
of a very vocal portion of society. Not only has this failed, but it has
also alienated the very citizens it purports to represent.

At a time when the current administration has waged an imperialistic war
against a sovereign nation by lying to the citizens it is supposed to
represent, there has been a largely unheard hue and cry for impeachment
proceedings. This cry has remained unanswered perhaps because Democratic
politicians have no faith that it could be carried out. Our position in the
world has never been at such a low ebb. Indeed it may only be because we are
not signatories to the International Court that the world community has not
filed indictments against this nation for its aggressive war and for crimes
against humanity.

On the homefront, relations among citizens has never been more polarized.
Half of the citizenry refuse to talk to the other half. Catcalls and
obscenities greet those who would speak out against the current
administration. We have, indeed, finished the most embarrassing election in
my life's history; where it has been allowable to make many, many libelous
claims against candidates without the necessity for proving those libels or
being held to them in a court of law, thereby unjustly removing candidates
from consideration by the public at large.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that a very small majority of
Americans now favor a theocracy and expect their government to reflect, not
the values of our constitution, but the moral values of Christianity. This
movement happily sets neighbor against neighbor and allows tax free
religious institutions to use their ecclesiastic powers to tell citizens how
to vote. These neoconservatives have played free with using citizens
against one another, abusing their charge to provide for the welfare and
equality of all groups.

It is our right, as well as our duty, to investigate the option of
dissolving our current political association. I humbly request that our
Democratic politicians begin such a discussion and make it as open and
interactive a forum as possible, that all 49.3% of us might have the
opportunity to determine the government under which we would be governed.

Dear DNC:

Last year I ordered Hillary Clinton’s book and pledged $29.95 per month to the DNC. At this time, I find myself no longer interested in supporting the Democratic National Committee financially. Please discontinue the monthly charges to my credit card. If there are further charges on my Visa, I will dispute them.

I am extremely disenchanted with the performance of the DNC during this 2004 election cycle for several reasons, and will not be supporting your efforts monetarily until things change within your organization.

First, the entire process that occurs during the primary season needs to be fundamentally overhauled. How is it that a small state in the Midwest named IOWA - literally decides the one person who gets the big MO -- who usually becomes the Democratic nominee? We need to have a broader mandate in this primary process, both in geographic involvement and diversity of voters. I strongly suggest the DNC consider regional primaries, or a ‘mass primary’ held on one day that makes this process more fair. By the time some states held their primary this time, it was so moot that hardly anyone cared about or covered the results because John Kerry was already the crowned the "Prince!"

Secondly, I left the Republicans in 1992 with Bill Clinton and never looked back, however, I have ALWAYS considered myself an Independent. This cycle though I donated money to the Democratic Party. During the primary this past year I was reminded why I won’t ever consider myself a “true” Democrat, when my primary choice, Gen. Wesley Clark was chided by some of the party faithful for having only recently changed his party affiliation to ‘D’ in late 2003. Does one need to have a pedigree to join this group? If that’s required count me out! (I have held this inside for awhile, but with the defeat of Kerry and unraveling of the Democratic party, I am putting my cards on the proverbial table: Shame on you! )

I suggest the higher ups in the organization read, read, read George Lakoff's MORAL POLITICS, because the very reasons why the DNC can't win elections is all nicely spelled out in his book. You have allowed the Republican metaphors to control the very fiber of this country. Things won't change until YOU counter their dialogue.

For these reasons, along with the lack of a clear direction and focus in the Democratic party have forced me to reconsider continuing my financial contributions to this effort. Please discontinue charges on my credit card immediately.

The Kerry volunteers here in Chicago are already in touch, trying to figure out what to do with our data base of hundreds of volunteers.

I have three suggestions so far:

1. Pick out two or three congressional races in 2006 and flood the candidate with volunteers and funds. My first suggestion is to go after Denny Hastert, but I am open to suggestions.

2. Start an impeachment drive. It will probably take a long time to get anything going, since the Repukes control the house, but lying to congress is a felony and an impeachable offense, and the Smirking Sociopath clearly lied about WMD, the cost of the war and the cost of the prescription plan.

3. Begin a major email campaign to convince Europeans, Canadians and other interested parties to boycott all red states and red-state corporations. Reroute all their tourism dollars to NY, Cali and Chicago and the like, and starve Florida, Louisiana and the like.

4. Begin a research group to identify strongly pro-Bush corporations and associations. The NCBA (beef producers) are crowing about the Bush win and how much money they gave to the punk. It would not be hard to find out their membership and specifically buy from beef producers who are not affiliated. Wal-Mart, which for many years has claimed it gave to both parties equally, was outed by the WSJ this week as giving over 80 percent of its donations (and it is the second biggest individual corporate donor in the U.S.) to Bush and the GOP.

That's all I have so far, but I've been buried in work all day. I am sure I will come up with more.

Then came to my 3 hour land use law class which seems worthless now. Oregon passed Measure 37 which effectively kills any land use and environmental regualtions in this state and will bankrupt it and kill off every thing we love about it.
Tonight, my fiance is making me a nice dinner, and then I'm going to suggest we watch an old movie (maybe Blazing Saddles), and drink a beer I had saved for celebration (which is now mourning), and go to bed.
