An e-mail from Howard Dean
~sniffle~ I love this guy!

Dear (GoddessOfGuinness),

Montana, one of the reddest states, has a new Democratic governor.

First-time candidates for state legislatures from Hawaii to Connecticut beat incumbent Republicans.

And a record number of us voted to change course -- more Americans voted against George Bush than any sitting president in history.

Today is not an ending.

Regardless of the outcome yesterday, we have begun to revive our democracy. While we did not get the result we wanted in the presidential race, we laid the groundwork for a new generation of Democratic leaders.

Democracy for America trained thousands of organizers and brought new leadership into the political process. And down the ballot, in state after state, we elected Dean Dozen candidates who will be the rising stars of the Democratic Party in years ahead.

Tens of millions of us are disappointed today because we put so much of ourselves into this election. We donated money, we talked to friends, we knocked on doors. We invested ourselves in the political process.

That process does not end today. These are not short-term investments. We will only create lasting change if that sense of obligation and responsibility becomes a permanent part of our lives.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

We will not be silent.

Thank you for everything you did for our cause in this election. But we are not stopping here.

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

P.S. -- Join others in your community tonight at the Democracy for America Meetup to celebrate your hard work and discuss the next steps for your local group: http://dfa.meetup.com

.."more Americans voted against George Bush than any sitting president in history"

Thank you Howard Dean!!

I also heard an interview with someone on KPFA a couple of weeks ago that basically said that if GWB did win that the Dems and the left were now very well prepared. Dean's mail confirms what the interviewee said. A positive message for a dreary, depressing day.

He has been the epitome of class and grace since he decided to run and was the most helpful to the candidate (who shall remain nameless) of any other Democrat. I hope he runs again!

23. Dean has the right idea with Democracy for America.
Republicans did this almost thirty years ago with GOPAC. Educating the public about the far right wing and recruiting candidates for local elections are the first steps of a long process.

26. I LOVE HOWARD...BUT
I donated $100 to the guy in the primaries and would have sent him more if I had it, he had the message and he would have made a great president.

However, he had no chance of beating Bush. Kerry at least had the stature and military background to compete.

In 2008 we need to nominate Evan Bayh, he's the only guy who can win in red areas.

27. It's unimportant who's running in 2008 right now.
Many events will be taking place before people decide to run.

What IS important is party unity. If the nation is divided, we must come closer together. We must continue the work that we started with this election, with regard to getting the message out, and keeping people involved.

It's not time to go home, it's time to kick ass.

I invested about $300 in this, and I was scraping the bottom of the barrel to do it. You know something?

I'd do it again.

- $2K - and my wife contributed $400.00 In 2008 I'll make sure we both contribute the max during the first month of Dean's campaign. I've started saving today.
