Hearings should be held to determine if the state Democratic and Republican parties violated state elections laws with bulk mailers sent to potential voters, the state Election Board decided Wednesday.
The Republican Party sent out 400,000 absentee ballot applications with campaign literature attached for President Bush and statewide GOP candidates Johnny Isakson and Bobby Baker.
The Democratic Party sent out 12,701 campaign fliers for House candidate Terry Evans and PSC candidate Mac Barber without disclosing the top three officials of the political party.
Lawyers for the Secretary of State's office said both mailers may violate state law.
