Joe started out with another instance of Rush "pulling one out of his ass". But then he asked, "but that's not what you listen to Rush for is it, the facts?" No it's the attitude. He is sticking it to the liberal elite in honor of the little man.

Ditto head agrees.

Then Joe mentioned that Rush smokes (Communist) Cuban cigars and that he was laughing at his listeners behind their backs.

Here's what I remember (and don't take it as verbatim...I'm senile as hell).

Joe explained what Al never seems to grasp, and that is how Limbaugh acts like he stands up for the little guy, etc. Trouble is, he talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. In an interview with Cigar Aficionado magazine, Limbaugh explains that his favorite wine is a little-known but very expensive $2,000 a bottle beauty from (OMG...) FRANCE. He also mentions his favorite vacation spot is (drumroll...) PARIS; and that he loves to smoke expensive cigars on his trips to gay Paree made in (here it comes...wait for it...) CUBA!!

The thrust of Conason's comments on Rush was that he is a "phony populist." Specifically, he is really a member of the "conservative elite": while he pretends to argue the point of view of the "little guy" (vs the "liberal elite"), he is living high on the hog - like any millionaire entertainer would - and laughing all the way to the bank.

As evidence, Conason cited an interview from "Cigar Aficionado" in which Rush claims to favor $2000/bottle FRENCH wines and CUBAN ("communist") cigars. Rush loves Paris and San Francisco as travel destinations.

Lucky for us, the whole piece is online and I have spot-checked a few of Conason's claims. They check out, perfectly.
