Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell is talking with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell about taking a high- level job in the State Department.
Blackwell, who is in Washington for a national conference, had informal talks by phone with Powell earlier this week to explore the possibility of becoming assistant secretary for human rights.

Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell will announce next week whether he will resign his post to take a high-level job with the U.S. Department of State in Washington.
Blackwell is scheduled to meet privately with his senior staff on Tuesday and then hold a press conference Wednesday to disclose whether he will accept an offer to become the department's counselor under Secretary of State Colin Powell.

In a surprise announcement, Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell yesterday said that he will not resign to take a job with the Bush administration and that he plans to run for Ohio governor in 2006.
Blackwell, a newly minted millionaire, ended weeks of speculation about whether he was headed for a high-level appointment in the State Department by saying he will fulfill his term as secretary of state through 2002.
