I speak to my step sister about once a year, I called her today and somehow, the subject of politics came up.
She said it was wrong to just vote the party line.okay, i'm cool with that. then she said she was a democrat and voted for bush because of the war..
I was shocked and she continued, "I just wasn't comfortable with that Kerry.." ... "and his wife, what's her name, Heinz, she was kind of arrogant. I didn't like her at all, but I liked Hillary Clinton"

then she said, " but i dont know if I'm really happy with bush now because of what he wants to do with Social Security"

and here you have another patriotic american who votes....

Born and raised repuke but have changed parties. Voted for Nader in 2000 and got behind Kerry in 04. I'd love to see the Democratic Party really get out there and tell it like it is. You are welcome here, but keep in mind that we are very well aware of who is "spewing hatred and bigotry." These are very smart people. and your post speaks loud and clear to all of us that know what is going on in this country. You have your opinion and we have ours. Ultimately, ours will triumph. Your candidate has been fooling you and we have already figured it out. Does it make you angry that there are people willing to stand up for American values and freedoms? Read a little about how this country was formed. Our founding fathers were the "dissidents" of their times. More than 200 years later we call them patriots! I know they don't teach this much in schools any more, but beleive me they were what this board represents!

What topic did you wish to have a discussion about? You have just attributed to people in this forum terms including "INTOLERANT", "need to get a grip", and "narrow minded". And then you want us to be interested in your views?

I am also from MA but unlike you I took the trouble to learn some more about John Kerry when he started campaigning for president. I learned that he did some good work uncovering the BCCI scandal, annoying some fellow Democrats in the process. He also performed substantial and largely unsung work in the Iran-Contra investigations. He has been consistently pro-choice. The Sierra Club, in their endorsement for his candidacy, recognized a consistent record of environmental leadership which you can look up at their web site. Again and again during the campaign he opposed the tax cuts that were given to the wealthy, i.e. those with incomes over $200K. What part of these positions is not clear to you?

This does not surprise anyone. The fact of the matter is that during Any election, no matter who is running people do make the decision for various reasons to switch. It may be this person had some fear of instating a different president during war time or something else. THIS is not ABNORMAL. Having said that, the fact that you found 1 democrat that voted for bush or ten for that matter does not make this election legitimate. The evidence is piling up. On top of the original evidence we now have evidence that recounts have been tampered with in the recount effort! thsi is a good thing. It helps prove our point!

It may take some time. We may have to live through this stuff for months or, yes, even years. We may even experience a collapse of our society. The point is, should you limit the amount of time or effort, or pain you might have to endure, because it will be time consuming, or painful to watch this happen EVEN though it could ULTIMATELY restore America to greatness? Personally the measure of a true patriot in my mind is the ability to suffer though the tragedy with the knowledge that it will ultimately lead to something good being accomplished. I hate to see people on this board get so down because of some insignificant discovery that someone they know jumped ship to vote for Bush. Don't give up, don't get down. We will accomplish a change! Think of all the hardships our founding fathers had to go through to gain independence from the corrupt government of their time! Always keep this in mind! Believe me, there are worse things we could be going through right now. There may well be worse things yet to come. Stay strong! There are far more people on board with us than you know. Not all of them are here. Some of them are just figuring out where to go for information. "If you build it, they will come" is staring to happen. I'm seeing them start to come.

Main stream media is losing veiwers RIGHT NOW! Those veiwers are redirecting thier interests for accurate information. Many are coming to the internet for that information. Many more will come if we direct them to legitimate news. Conspiracy theory on the internet is starting to die in the mouths of those who realize the internet has been reporting the news months in advance of the main stream media. 27. w/o a doubt I have seen at least one guilty face presented to me

by my rethug relative. He is starting to get the picture and he seems to having a really hard time looking me in the eye since our Thanksgiving political "discussion." I think he is beginning to realize this administration is not what they appeared to him just before the election. By Christmas I suspect he may spill the beans about what he is staring to realize. If not, well, he isn't one of the people that I am interested in convincing anyway.

I know it may be tough to believe, since most of the people who post here are probably significantly above average intelligence, but there are a lot of stupid people in this country. (Not saying they all voted for Bush, but ...)

Just an example:

The new Medicare prescription drug discount card gives low income people (under $10k or so) $600 to spend on prescription drugs in 2004 and 2005. There are estimated to be about 4-6 million people who would qualify for the benefit, but way fewer than that number have signed up. If the government can't GIVE AWAY $600 to these people, how are we ever to hope that they will understand issues in a way that will lead them to vote their interests.

Sad thing to contemplate, but maybe we should reinstitute some form of "poll tax", although it wouldn't be monetary, it would be a questionnaire. 10 questions. Get 2 right, you can vote. Less than that, you're too uninformed to have an impact on the country.

Sample questions:

Who is the Secretary of Defense?
Who are your current Senators?
Name one Supreme Court Justice.
What is the capital of the United States?
How many states are there?

I think we'd all be amazed how many people couldn't answer questions like these.
