Why isn't the phone company stepping up to Support the Troops? Good question.

So many talk about supporting the troops, but have no concept of what that means. Instead of buying that 9.95 Chinese magnet for their SUV and shouting to the world how much they "Support the Troops," they could actually use that money to make a difference.

So, as liberals, we quietly work to the soldiers the equipment, armor, health care, support etc. that they need, while we carry the label of unpatriotic because we dare to question their Commander in Chief.

i only got the phone card email...even though i donated alot to the post election gelec fund...and was a super volunteer..or what they called a super volunteer...i wouldnt read much into that..seriously...
and i had the kerry field rep for my area of fla living with me..i just called him and he knows of nothing about this..he did not get it either!! and he ususally gets every up to the moment stuff!!

46. I got three- one for the phone card and two for the Kerry Edwards campaign

I figured someone must have pushed the wrong button (twice) on the second message which appeared to be something they sent prior to Nov. 2. I thought it was a bit odd, but didn't read into it as some sort of "pre-Monday test" (regarding tomorrow's filing). However, although emotionally of course, I like that possible explanation much better. There's no contest when choosing between "email blast/computer glitch" or strategy for an un-concede blast!

With that said, I am also doing my best not to get my hopes up too high because regardless of what manifests tomorrow with the Kerry filing, we have a long road ahead of us. (and yet, I am smiling in anticipation nonetheless!)

4. Kerry's Concession Was And Remains Strategic

Happy holidays! The Kerry concession was the first salvo in a well conceived firing pattern of misdirection. If you look at the money raised by his GELAC (General Election Legal And Compliance) Fund, he knew as soon as the "results" were in that he'd need most if not all of the recount money he raised and a few weeks to get a handle on how to prove that he actually won.

During that time, the website remained active with 90% of the original content (excluding the blog) still there. Starting roughly a month after the election, he began the legal process of insisting that each vote count and that each vote be counted. However, he allowed his attorneys and surrogates to do most of the speaking for him. This was to force the Republicans to keep their firewall of misinformation and echo chamber in hot standby mode for as long as possible.

As soon as he unconcedes, all hell will break loose, and I mean that literally.

The other responses in this thread are correct that the "thank you" email was a test. The phone card message was genuine and, in my opinion, very appropriate. However, the gloves are about to come off.

To answer your question then, don't read too much into his messages but take them as more cryptic signals that the sleeping lion is about to wake.

Never the other one. Is that strange? I did contact his brother immediately following the election because I experienced the vote jump thing and what was probably meant to be intimidation, but I'm not very easily intimidated and most people seem to sense that about me and not even bother trying. Did they just assume that because I contacted his brother I would want to give money to the troops? I do want to do this, but I'm not sure if responding through that message is the best way to do it. The USO is of course a legit organization, but I'm still being cautious about the possibility that there are freepers out there with an agenda to rip of the liberal poor guy for questioning their "Godlike hero!" I will be happy to give once I am assured Kerry is indeed behind all this. I do believe, but making SURE has always served me well.

I've been wondering where this other email is, since I too have been on the list since before the election. I also signed the education petition, so I wonder how much that had to do with which I received.

I think you should read into this that the list is a very valuable resource and they are seeing if it is still valid. Are they going to put out a "call to arms" is another question entirely. Believe me, if they do, I'll go.

WTF is wrong with John Kerry asking supporters to donate money to the USO so that soldiers may call their families over the holidays.

Those of you making insensitive comments, have you ever served? Have you ever been forced to leave your family and go to live in some god forsaken land where people are trying to kill you? Do you think that the kids that enlist in the armed service do it because they want to kill???? :wtf:

Soldiers are just regular people. Most of them come from homes where service in the military is their only ticket to any hope of a better life. Many joined before * turned this country into the global disgrace that it has become. Do you understand that these soldiers enlist for 8 years. Now that they have enacted stop loss, even after their service obligation expires, they can not get out.

So, in light of that, I think that the very least we can do is let them phone home. Is that too much? Take your distaste for John Kerry elsewhere because what he is doing is a good thing.

But I'm new here, so what do I know? I have a nephew in the army who is headed to Iraq in March. He said everyone in the military he talked to was hoping for a "regime change". He also said "we shouldn't be there, we should be in Afghanistan". My heart breaks for him, his young wife and their new baby. He's going there cause it's his duty, not because he wants to, and he's scared. Phone calls home are real expensive, and he doesn't make a lot of them. He's just a KID.

I am so happy to have found DU because I'd been watching these crooks for the last couple of years in disbelief, and it was great to find like-minded people. I guess I'm pretty much an optimist, and sometimes I can't believe the negativity toward the guy most of us voted for for President. It always seems like he's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. Unless I'm in his shoes, I wouldn't even try to make the calls for him, because it's a very sophisticated crime machine he's taking on (IMO). I think he's playing it the only way he can.

By the way - how long is one considered a newbie here?

I really appreciated your post. It almost made me cry. I know what these soldiers are going through because I have been there. I am really sorry that your nephew has to go to Iraq. The morale in the military is low and getting lower. It is even worse for the Reserves and National Guard.

As to your question on newbies, I think Faye hit it right on the head. It is more a matter of time than post count. It is a matter of quality, not quantity. I have lurked here at DU since the election. I joined on Veterans Day and consider myself a newbie. There are a lot of people here that joined after the election. It has been a great mix of therapy and activism.

As for John Kerry, no matter what he does, it will not be enough in some people's minds. I have never known a man to be so villafied by his "supporters" I feel that I know him well and I trust his judgment. Regardless of what happens in the upcoming months, he will have my support and my trust.

However, I specifically remember a report saying that packages being delivered on USO convoys to US soldiers were not getting through and were being stolen by insurgents. This report was about two weeks ago. I haven't been able to locate it or the source of it yet, but I am going to try. I would hate to find out that the only person using my phone card was using it to call OBL headquarters! I know that's a stretch, just using a little sarcasm to get my point accross.

I had heard about the request for phone card donations elsewhere and was thinking of donating, but when Kerry's email arrived it motivated me to jump to it. I think it was a lovely idea - to do a good deed and also concretely demonstrate that dems support the troops too! And put some muscle behind Kerry as well. ;-)

There was a blurb on Fox news tonight, appx 7:15pm, about people being sent the phone card email. It tied into an easy way for candidates to re-use email lists for future needs. Whatever that means :)
