Holiday Visits: What Did Everyone Learn About Awareness of Fraud?

I was shocked to learn that some of the relatives I don't see often had been keeping up enough on things to believe something went wrong. One of them, when we were talking about some of the problems in Ohio, blurted out, "How long have we known that it was going to come down to Ohio and Florida? You don't need a national conspiracy to rig the election. Just a Katherine Harris in charge."

In my gathering, nearly everyone was either of the mindset that fraud happened or at least that it was possible. None of them liked the way Ohio played out during the recount. They said the same thing we have been saying here -- you don't act like that when you've got nothing to hide.

Did anyone else have an experience like this?

1. My only local relative is a cousin

and she's all too aware that the NM election was crooked.

I think most people suspect that Bush lost but that the RNC cheated like mad because they wanted this state so badly. Even the right wing paper reported that one judge was disqualifying all provisional ballots for Kerry and approving all the ones for Bush.

So yes, it's out there, just below the surface and seething.

and they were not the least bit interested - they were annoyed. Democracy is annoying.

6. I holiday'd with Republicans!

My husband is the youngest of 13 children. His family is 3/4 religious conservatives and 1/4 flaming liberals.

Someone brought up the Vietnam War and I said, "Well, the current mess we're in, in Iraq, makes Vietnam look like a picnic."

A huge debate ensued, and turned into a screaming match. This huge family was screaming at each other and it got pretty heated.

Unfortunately, I had to leave when things got interesting, because our kids fell asleep and we had to load them into the car--when the screaming got louder.

When I left, everyone was still yelling. The last thing I heard was, "Oh yeah! Well, a decisive leader in the White House is much better than some flip-flopping wimp!" As we were walking out the door, my husband shouted back, "Which wimp are you talking about? The one who gunned his boat up on an embankment, then ran a guy down and shot him and killed him? Is that the wimp you're talking about? Or are you talking about the wimp who vacationed on a pile of cocaine in Alabama while Vietnam was going on?"

(I love my husband!)

No talk about election fraud though! Just a room full of 40 people screaming at each other!

3. My family has no clue

and I'm not allowed to talk politics with them.

Honestly, this time I was fine with that pathetic rule. I had a nice time just visiting. Although I did get in some good Walmart and Religion stuff while sidestepping the politics of those issues.

& stayed off the subject.

And speaking of Wal-Mart, you'll appreciate this short story regarding our Christmas get-together:

My sister bought a Bingo game at Wal-Mart, along with a number of inexpensive items for prizes, to play that night. As the game progressed, we realized that there were NO "B's" included in the game, plus a lot of the "I's" were missing. In effect, we were playing "Ingo". :wow:

Goes to show you what can happen when products are made by non-English speaking manufacturers. :hurts:

4. Some family is on DU & knows about it, some others

didn't know and were happy when I explained that people ARE WORKING on it. One thinks we're nuts, but will be happy enough if it is brought to light.

I always try to steer it away from the politics of Kerry vs. * and more toward "is our votes being counted?" (to borrow from *'s long list of misspeaks).

All my people are blue through and through but not one has the brain space to retain any info on the Election - they've all "moved on".


To them I've become lovably eccentric.

11. My landlord was happy to hear about stolen election though she told

me that her and her friends already felt that way, just needed to hear it from someone with a little knowledge on what is going on, now she is spreading the word about it. She loves to talk anyway, just more for her to talk about now.

15. I had Christmas Dinner with a married couple and their college kids

from Maine - family of the friend who hosted.

They were as livid as I was -- here we were, total strangers, and by the end of dinner we were trying to figure out what caves we should all get ready to live in because everything is so fucked up.<G>

They knew a LOT, and they said it's only been in the past year or so that they've gotten politically active.

They said that there is no news about the election and didn't know anything about any of the lawsuits. Their only source of news is MSM and I guess the blackout has them in its clutches.

has "moved on".....ever since I told my sister that I find George Bush to be "morally reprehensible" we haven't talked politics!

My other, liberal sister thinks I'm kinda' nuts about this "conspiracy stuff", but my hubby hangs in there with me as does a good friend across the country in Oregon.

18. My family's Dem friend from Oklahoma came to town

and was VERY aware and almost defensive about FRAUD.

She was very reassured when we all kind of agreed with her. But we're all Dems at my house. :shrug:
