After A Senator Stands Up Tomorrow our Work Will Just Begin. Anyone Game?

Although many of us have fantasies of a senator standing up tomorrow (no naysayers please)and John Kerry riding in on a white horse carrying a sword (or an AK 47) to declare himself the true winner of the Presidential election, we all know this is NOT going to happen.

On a positive note, we do know that if (and it will happen) a senator stands up, we have a great opportunity to promote election fraud to this whole nation and to the world for that matter.

We need to plan now for our strategy. Are we going to start bombarding the media at 3:00 tomorrow like we are doing the senators today? Any other ideas, strategies?

3) sponsor state constitutional amendments promoting election reform: ie. a verifiable paper trail.

Florida passed a law determining that the Secretary of State should be a non-elected, non-partisan position. Who did Jeb appoint? A Republican partisan. Changing the system to purge it of all unfairness is extremely difficult. At least in the short term, we need to use it for our own advantage.

So how will the corporate media spin it tomorrow and how can it be countered is the first question.

On edit : we should not only consider what to spin/counterspin, but also how to do it. Given the power of the corporate media, I imagine we should do it through word-of-mouth (finally daring to speak up where we were once ridiculed), through email, through the print media.

At this stage fliers may be usefull as people may not be ready for direct discussion, but may be ready to pick something up as their interest level is raised.

Maybe even better to let them know NOW that you expect them to carry the contest live all the time, and that you will otherwise cut your subscription or avoid their advertisers.

Because how sure are we they will not cut away or not cover it live?

15. What is needed is ...

... real investigations that lead to a few really nasty scandals. Like, who told the Texas Strike Force what to do, where the 19000 extra Bush votes in Miami County came from, who ordered the 35000 letters to trick voters into being disenfranchised, who was behind the perhaps 60000 phantom votes, why 93000 votes were left uncounted. Perhaps Conyers gets his inquiry, or an ambitous DA steps in, or some muckraking reporters.
The big picture is there, now we need the actual villains brought out in the daylight.
Only after that enough support will be found for meaningful election reform. My fantasy is to see Jimmy Carter head a blue ribbon panel that designs a free and fair election system. He knows what to do, because the Carter institute monitors elections around the world. Judging by his e-mail, Kerry has a pretty good idea himself. Believe me, there will no more Boards of Election, no Secretaries of State involved, no need for provisional ballots, no possibilities for challenging registration, if everything goes right there won't be a need to register at all. After all, the government should see to it that everyone 18 years or older and not currently in jail gets their voter card on time. That's the way it works from Norway to New Zealand.

I thought you wanted to discuss strategy for affecting change? Why are so few doing so?
We need a strategy beyond tomorrow. We need to change the system to get Democratic candidates elected.

Yet, I think these are two separate issues.
1) Change the System 2) Get Dems Elected

We are in such crisis mode right now that we're all, All Over The Place! We need to focus.

I feel we need to focus on changing the system first. After we have a fair and transparent election procedure in place then we can focus on getting Dems elected. Without one, # two is futile.

To focus on getting a new election procedure in place, the government and the people first need to believe there is something wrong with our old system. "If it's not broken, don't fix it." Sadly, the repugs have spun this election like it's the cleanest election in history. Therefore, the mainstream public doesn't really care to fight the government to put a new procedure into place.

We need media exposure! That's the bottom line. We need the public and the lackadaisical government to realize their is something really, really wrong with our elections.

Tomorrow is our best hope. If a senator or senators stand up, not only are government officials recognizing that hey somethings wrong here, but the media hopefully will to.

I say we then blast the media until the whole nation and world knows something is f----- up with our election process. We can then move onto other steps.

24. I implore you and other Democrats, work on what we can change

Please let us concentrate on something that we can accomplish. Do what you need to do tomorrow, but following that we need to work on changing the electoral system. George Bush is not going to be impeached with a Republican majority. Focusing on that is simply a waste of time. Should some major revelation come out that motivates REPUBLICANS to see him unseated, then impeachment is a possibility, not before. Nixon only resigned because Republicans turned on him. Even though there was a Democratic majority in the House and Senate at the time, it was the Republicans who made the difference.
Let's concentrate on electoral reform. I repeat my proposals here: 1) work for electoral victories of supervisors of elections and secretaries of state. It is they who preside over elections. 2) proposal constitutional amendments, initiatives, and other mechanisms to ensure fair voting systems even in those states controlled by Republicans. In Fla, my first priority is a verifiable paper trail.

21. Not just the activists

You need to tell everyone you know, family, friends, co-workers to pressure for an honest investigation and a fair election. It doesn't matter what your political pursuasion is - the right to vote and have that vote counted is unalienable and fundamental to our democracy. Without it, we are no better than the tin horn dictators of the third world countries. Is this what we want for our great land? Tell that to everyone and ask if they disagree. If they do, tell them to move some place where it doesn't matter.
