The staffer at Barbara Mikulski's office said it like this: "Sen. Mikulski has not taken a position as yet, but there is a possibility of a Senate objection."

NO WAY she would have said this to me if it wasn't going to happen.

The fact that all these Senators "haven't taken a position" is extremely good news IMHO. They are waiting, because they are afraid they will be trashed between now and Thursday if they came out early.

And doesn't that indicate how terrified everybody is of this regime????

I think that deliberately stating that they will object tomorrow is also explainable by other motivations than just fear:

1. If they came out early, there might be less suspense. If there is a GROUP of senators, they could make a better impact by rising AFTER Conyers' no-doubt impressive speech instead of giving away the game adhead of time. It would be good theater, and that counts in Congress.

2. If they stand, it will be to call for serious investigation, NOT to overthrow the election. By standing AFTER Conyers' presentation, they would further emphasize that they are asking for a process of investigation, not a baseless attack. Again, IMO the psychology is different if they rise BEFORE Conyers' presentation.

Yes, this is hopeful news. They could still be doing it so that they can say, CYA-wise, "Well, I studied all the evidence carefully -- because I care so much about ALL my constituents of course -- and finally decided an investigation was not warranted." But it's better than their saying "absolutely NOT!"

And Conyers himself has been quoted as saying he expects at least a couple fo senators to stand.

12. I called my NY senators

The person I talked to in Clinton's office said that she is very "tuned in" to the issue and had her chief counsel attend Conyers' hearings (not exactly what she has said publicly in the last couple of days, but whatever..) They also said that she was "undecided". Schumer's office said he was undecided as well and that they were getting "oh, soooo many calls on this!" I said that I'd love it if "all of the Dems would stand together" on this...there was a rather **pregnant** pause (how's that for a unique way of adding gender to the discussion ;) ) I don't know..most likely wishful thinking but I had the feeling that it was a possibility. Obviously, I'm not holding my breath..honestly I'd be surprised if either one of them stood up, but I can dream, can't I??

I agree with the person that this would all make for good theater..and a great little video clip for the evening news, don't cha know:toast:
