Michael Moore on TODAY show (745 am NY time Thursday)

He's just about to come on. I've been channel surfing trying to find news about today's election certification at the Capitol, but all I've seen so far has dealt mainly with the Tsunami, Gonzalez, and Amber Frey. Michael Moore likely will focus on Oscar prospects for F911, wouldn't you think?

12. Moore managed to string a few sentences together, comparing what's about

to unfold at the Capitol today to scenes of the 2001 election certification joint session from F911. He framed the issue for today as, "WILL THE BLACK REPRESENTATIVES BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK" about Republican suppression of the African-American vote, or will once again not one Senator stand with them? I think this is a great way to frame the issue for most Americans. He explicitly said, "this won't change the outcome of the election", but it's important for future elections to have this discussion today.

I agree with MM that today is a potentially very important teachable moment for America, to see Congress discuss the critique of Republican election unfairness in Ohio contained in the100-page House Judiciary Commitee Democratic Staff Report online at http://www.pdamerica.org . Most Americans have NO IDEA of the corrupt election administration that happens in African-American communities every Election Day, even and especially outside the South, when Republicans control a state.

objecting to the vote due to some "irregularities" in Ohio and he hopes a senator will stand with the Black members of congress. it will not change the outcome of the election. done over and out.

He's a real communicator, that's for sure, especially when it comes to promoting box-office or DVD sales of his films. I think it's this crassness that generates much of the uneasiness and criticism voiced here on DU whenever his name comes up. But I admire the way he's managed to turn progressivism into a very profitable business for himself. Without MM, often the issues we care about would get NO mainstream media coverage. Just look at the news this morning--the ONLY "coverage" of the joint-session certification of the election so far has been a few sentences from MM.

10. MM made a succinct argument

for a senator to object.

He said that the CBC has investigated and produced a report and that at least one senator, especially a Democratic senator, should give them the chance to have their 5 minutes to talk about what happened in this election. Said that it will not likely change the result but that we need to do it to ensure fair elections in the future.

Before this argument, his lead in was that Democrats have to start standing up for what they believe.

18. It's not from the CBC--It's from Conyers's staff on the House Judiciary Cmte

and the link is given in post #12 above. I guess the fact that the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee is African-American leads some people to attribute what Conyers sets in otion to the CBC, especially when there are very few Barney Franks and Jerrold Nadlers to stand with Conyers, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones of Cleveland, Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson Jr, etc.

The Democratic staff on the committee did a SUPERB job of stringing together all the ways Ken Blackwell manipulated election administration to suppress the votes of minorities and poor people. The report has HUNDREDS of footnotes and DOZENS of unanswered questions for Blackwell.

Moore did well, but the show was about Katie, who I used to like, but her moralizing with her studious glasses falling down her nose made her look like a fool. I think she should get away from the koolaid trough and let someone of Moore's caliber speak for the human race.
I had some nasty republicans telling me yesterday that the CBC in the Moore movie was only trying to race bait everyone. Why can't the repubs see this voting situation as important for all. Of course race plays into it if the republicans want to disenfranchise the blacks every time they attempt to participate in democracy. They are only alright to republicans when they go to war for the oil and help blow off some weapons for the military industrial complex.

and am waiting for the MM interview. They just read the news and mentioned the electoral certification, but NOT the challenge! Arrgh! Gawd!
