The point is THAT WHEN YOU DISENFRANCHISE ONE, you disenfranchise ALL.

If the shoe were on the other foot, the GOP would be screaming bloody murder. And if they continue to deny Americans the right to vote, that shoe may be pinching their foot sooner than they think.

We need to make the system fair and true. Otherwise, our nation is doomed, and the grand experiment will have failed.

These women are great. Barbara Boxer is a hero for standing first in the Senate. Conyers initiated the hearings, issued the report, wrote the letter to the Senators. He is not from Ohio so he deferred to his courageous colleague form Ohio who also deserves immense credit. Women were in the lead but they were not alone in that lead. Once again African Americans stood fast for voting rights, just like in 2000. All of them deserve credit.

Thank goodness I live in state of California where our fine Senator Barbara Boxer does. I have no regrets of ever have voted for her, and has my endorsement for a long time now.

I recall the UN did a study a few years ago on essentially "how to make the world a better place".

Their answer was "Encourage women to own property"!! Given something to build on and defend as their own (defend as in build communities around YOUR PROPERTY) women tend to band together to make their lives and the lives of the children (and men) around them better.

Tubbs Jones' closing statement spoke about not being able to "let it go" (which is what a cleveland newspaper editorial advised yesterday) until there is democracy at home - not just in iraq, not just in ukrain, not just in afghanistan.

And while that's kind of a no brainer to most of us at DU, it is still tremendously inspiring to see someone standing up and speaking our truth (and the truth about democracy) in such a public forum and in such an impassioned manner.
