1. VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES.
2. PARTICIPATE IN THE PRECINCT CONVENTION. This is the only place you, as an individual Democrat, can introduce resolutions that can change how your state's Democratic Party does things.
3. If possible, become a senatorial delegate and participate in the senatorial convention where you can vote on the resolutions once again.
4. Any "business-as-usual" Democratic candidates or resolutions must be marginalized. This is imperative.

There were too many NO votes on the Senate floor - this is one way we can fortify the Democratic Party at the grass-roots level.

12. Point #1 is ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT!

Vote in the primaries. Vote in the local elections. Heck, write in John Stewart, Randi Rhodes, Keith Olbermann if you feel like it, but get your name solidly in the registration books: make sure you stay registered and deal with any changes of address ASAP and make sure they are resolved by working the (figurative) voting machine. It's the only way to know for sure that your registration is being handled correctly.

Also try voting absentee once or twice if your state allows it, to make sure that your signature is properly on file. Do it both ways (in different elections! :-) ).

That way it is harder for them to kick you off the roles, and harder for them to short your precinct based on past election turnout.
