Alright i have calmed down some, I have already called my Senator (Boxer) and thanked her profusely for her courage.

Next on my list i plan to call all other 43 democratic senators and let them know that i watched today and I am happy that they want reform but I still expect them to push for an investigation into what they commented on today. Additionally I will let them know that I am disappointed that none of them voted with Boxer and need to take a stand if they want to earn back my trust. I Will let every office know that they cannot take the middle ground anymore they must stand up and fight for their base like the repukes did this last election.

Next I am going to call all of the republican senators and pose as a republican concerned that they are not looking into these allegations letting my beloved president's legitimacy come into question. "I want them to investigate the Ohio allegations and prove once and for all that nothing took place!"

1. short and long term ideas for election reform

Long term, but beginning tomorrow: 1) work to get local supervisors of elections elected in your county 2) also secretaries of state. It is those two offices that control elections. 3) put pressure on the federal representatives to insist on a verifiable paper trail and other key electoral improvements but don't let Republican intransigence stop us 4) sponsor state constitutional amendments and initiatives demanding a verifiable paper trail 5) work on making one person one vote a constitutional right (J Jackson Jr.'s point today). We can sponsor a fed constitutional amendment to promote that.
6) how about a people's cable news network? Funded with our money. Think of all the money we've contributed to elections and recounts. How about investing in a cable news network (if we can't get rich Dem's to buy one). Fair and Balanced, ya know.
Republicans use the Constitution to promote discrimination. Let us use it to promote democracy!


Short term: Thank the courageous Dem's, as you mentioned. But also contribute a little money to a fund we have to send roses to Boxer and Stubbs-Jones

3. disagree on the not voting

I think they should have the courage to stand up and be counted, one way or another. I was very disappointed that my congressman, Wexler, wasn't there. I also find it odd Kerry chose today to be in Iraq.
This was a momentous historical occasion. They should have been there and should have voted.
I wrote Wexler asking for an explanation of why he did not vote. I didn't chastise him. I'm hoping for a response.

Still, letting all members know that the issue is important is the thing to do.

Is it that they face repercussions for a yea vote and therefore don't vote at all? How can we tell abstentions from those not present?
Wexler and Kerry didn't vote, but neither did Mel Martinez. Those are obviously not all for the same reasons.

instant runnof voting ballots and same-day primaries, publicly financed campaigns, election holidays, paper trails, hand counted ballots, and so forth.

No reason we can't each try to to see that these things get done in our own towns at least.

I think it's great that you're taking the time to suggest places where DUers can go to take practical, effective action.
