Am I crazy?

I am seriously considering running for Supervisor of Elections. The current term does not expire until 2008 so I have four years to meet the players, work the system, acquire the necessary knowledge. I already have the management experience and no skeletons in the closet. Our current SOE has been in the position for fourteen years and he does a decent job so if he does run for re-election he would be incredibly tough to beat. But given his age and health I have some doubts he will run for re-election.

I can't get this out of my head. Agghhh!

It's not crazy at all. Here's something to consider; I remember back in the early 80's when I was watching Pat Robertson's 666 club to see what the enemy was up to. He was talking about how they wanted the nutjob right to run for every office in the nation from school board to president. Well, all of those loons began running and Patsy Robertson would give them talking points etc. and look where they are now! That being said, I think we need to tear a page from Patsy's playbook and beat them at their own game.

4. If you don't run, we all lose

If you have any sort of qualification that enables you to pursue the office, by all means you should run for it. You offer a service to your community when you step up and take a leadership role. To not offer your skills is a waste of talent and representation.

Remember, democracy is a participation event, and running for office is one part of it. After all, the Greeks REQUIRED public service.

don't want to run because of the fear of being "outed" in one form or another. Like they have had bad credit in the past, didn't finish college, not rich enough, etc, etc.... you get my drift.

who can run for dog catcher or school board or whatever it is that you can run for you should run for it. Randi was saying that the other day when she talked to dean that we need to get as many good people involved at the local level as possible. so the city council or anything.

you can do it. (jesus look at our president) anyone can. if i wasnt ill i would do it. i wish i could.

but like the guy on the phone said there is no support from the dems at the local level, and that is why my local dem lost to a republican neo-con in nyc for congress. anyway. Dean said he is aware of that and that needed to change.

so lets hope for dean getting that position.

As a matter of fact, I think a lot of us DU'ers should start to run for public office -especially ones having to do with elections.

19. Elections related jobs would be a good place...

...to absorb some of the tech workers from the dotcom bust.

A lot of our elections workers are completely computer illiterate and nearing retirement age.

The jobs are mostly part time and don't pay much. But they do allow you to contribute to society more than writing software for a pointy headed boss. If you can take the lifestyle change, and if you can up your socialization skills enough to do the meet and greets required to get anywhere in politics, then go for it.

I do have skeletons, and a lack of education (stay in school people!) otherwise Id be figuring out how to run for an office.

In our current selfish, materialistic society anyone who would willingly fight to take on such a huge responsibility without seeking personal gain is considered crazy by many... or at least "suspicious".
