I went to the race track the other day. My friend bet on a horse for which the closing odds were 3-1 to win.I bet on the favorite.
My horse took an early lead. He led by 3 lengths at the three- quarter pole when I noticed the odds change slightly on the board.
I was astounded. All betting was closed at the bell. Or so I thought.
And my friend's horse was closing the gap. It was now neck and neck. He polled away, won by three lengths and paid 2-1.
My buddy said "Come on, let's go collect". There was a sly smile on his face.
I said: "Did you see the odds change just before your horse made its move"?
He replied: "If they did, it was probably a computer glitch. I won't question it. My horse came in. That's all that counts".
I later learned that there were traces of performance inhibiting drugs found in the favorite. The official story was that the drugs were mistakenly applied and were meant for another horse which had been scratched earlier.
