Was Kerry bought off?
I received this in my e-mail this morning. I'm not trying to start a war at DU. I haven't really formed an opinion on it yet, but it does bring up some interesting points.

The person who sent it to me was a frontline campaign worker for Kerry.

But, anyway I thought I'd just throw it out there and see what folks have to say.

Was Kerry Bought? Let’s Explore
by Zoltan Abraham
January 21, 2005

I have a friend who insists that John Kerry was bought by the GOP before the election. His role, according to my friend, was merely to play the Democrat, diverting the energies of the left, without ever intending to win. In this way, Kerry would help George W. Bush ride to an easy victory, with an electronically manufactured mandate, which would wipe away the lingering questions of legitimacy left over from 2000.

I don’t know if I am completely sold on my friend’s theory, but I don’t think it’s an entirely unreasonable view either. Why? Let’s explore:

-- The New Hampshire Democratic primary results show signs of electronic voter fraud, much like the 2004 presidential results in Florida. John Kerry seems to have won that crucial primary through the manipulation of the electronic vote. Once he had New Hampshire in the bag, he had no trouble wrapping up the nomination.

-- During his campaign, Kerry's number one rule seemed to been never to say anything really damaging about Bush. At the same time, Kerry's bungling, ineffectual campaign exposed the Democratic Party to national and international mockery.

-- During the campaign, Kerry avoided discussing any issues that might shed light on or challenge the rule of corporations in our country, or world wide.

-- Kerry must have foreseen the voter fraud about to take place on November 2. If outside observers were sounding alarm bells in 2001 and 2002 already, Kerry, with all his insider information, must have known. Only an idiot would not have been able to connect the dots in his position. Yet Kerry never challenged the electronic machines during the campaign. If Kerry knew, as he must have, that both Ohio and Florida were in danger, why did he orchestrate a campaign strategy that needed at least one of these states for an electoral victory? How did he hope to win without these states? Why abandon most of the rest of the country, while focusing on key states that he knew were going to be stolen? (Note: While Ohio did not use the touch screen machines, they did use electronic scanners, which can also be manipulated.)

-- During the campaign, Kerry promised repeatedly that every vote would be counted. On election night, John Edwards came forward to say the same. But by midday on November 3, Kerry capitulated and rode off into the sunset.

-- In the weeks following election night, thousands of Americans worked heroically to expose the fraud and to overturn the manipulated results. John Kerry was conspicuous by his absence. Many of his die-hard loyalists theorized that he was just working behind the scenes, allowing his ground troops to prepare the way, so that he could jump back into the fray when all was ready. But this was just a fantasy. Kerry didn’t care.

-- Kerry had somewhere between $15 to $45 million in unspent money raised for the 2004 campaign. What has become of that money? He didn’t spend it on his own aimless campaign. He didn’t give it to local races, where the money would have been extremely helpful. He didn’t give it to the recount effort in Ohio, Florida, and in other states, where some local results were being contested. In Washington State, for example, the Democratic Party needed to raise $750,000 to recount the results for governor – or else this traditionally blue state would fall to Republican rule. Kerry donated $250,000. But he failed to pay the rest, expecting the people who had already given so much to him to make up the difference. Why? Why not foot the whole bill? He had the money. That’s what it was raised for.

-- Kerry and his wife were reportedly regaled by Arnold Schwarzenegger at one of his homes after the election. How odd, considering that Schwarzenegger helped to fire up the Republican National Convention against Kerry. I’m glad that Kerry can let by-gones be by-gones so quickly, with so much grace.

-- On January 6, 2005, Congress met in joint session to certify the electoral results. A small contingency from the House was able to mount a challenge, with the help of Senator Barbara Boxer. The event has now come to be called the Boxer Rebellion. To the Democrats’ everlasting shame, only one Senator (Boxer) and only 31 Representatives voted to uphold the challenge to the fraudulent results. How did John Kerry vote? He didn’t. He was out of the country.

So, I ask, did John Kerry really want to win? Did he really care about us at all? Was he bought?

I don’t know if he was bought. But, folks, however we look at it, we’ve been had. We’ve been taken for a ride.

3. Why not entitle your thread "KERRY BASH" then we'd know what
sort of nonsense the post is going to be.

6. he didn't need to be bought. He acquiesced on his own accord
He cares about his own political future. He thought a challenge to this election would interfere with that. Why does everyone insist on finding some other reason for Kerry's actions. He himself is responsible.

7. That does not at all describe Kerry's character,
and he sure seems like he is going to be watching every move the administration makes over the next 4 years. Look out for Kerry to come out fighting hard!! No doubt in my mind we will be seeing alot of Kerry.

9. To me, it doesn't matter if he was bought off or ...
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 08:17 PM by BattyDem

if he walked away on his own. The result is still the same: he made a promise to "never surrender" and then he did surrender - before all the Ohio votes were counted and knowing that minorities got screwed out of their right to vote ... again.

Now he sits back and does nothing while John Conyers, Barbara Boxer and activists from around the country fight to get the truth, or at the very least, a paper trail for the next election. Then in 2008, he wants to reap the benefits of everyone else's hard work and run for President again. Well, I can't vote for him because I no longer believe in him. I'm not trying to start a fight with Kerry supporters ... it's simply the way I feel.

As the saying goes: Fool me once ...

On edit: I will say this - I honestly don't believe he was bought off ... I think that story is total bullsh*t.

11. What exactly did Kerry get out of this in return? All these "points"..
could just as easily been a sign of a mismanaged campaign strategy. Who's advantage is it, do you think, for Dems to rehash theories on Kerry instead of moving forward?

13. The debates
In at least one debate Kerry had Bush near total meltdown.

Imo Bush came fairly close to destroying his re-election hopes with his performance.

If Kerry was taking a dive we wouldn't have seen that.

While I wasn't thrilled about Kerry's campaign team I do give Kerry credit for standing tall while undergoing one of the most underhanded and ruthless political smear campaigns in recent memory.

If there was any setup it was by the broadcast media.

14. Kerry is a very rich man in his own right
and is married to an heiress who is obscenely rich. I doubt he was bought off because I honestly think the only thing he could have been bought off with was the presidency.

I think it likelier that he was warned off, that his children were threatened. I can't think of anything else that would do it.

16. As the lawyers would say,
-- the circumstantial evidence makes for a damning case. But is it enough to "book him"?

Kerry was not my first choice for the Democratic nominee, and I had my doubts about his seeming lack of conviction in running for the presidency and his two major, seemingly avoidable gaffes -- letting the Swift Throat Liars for Bush garbage go unanswered, and saying he would still give Bush the authority to wage war unchecked even knowing what he knows now -- what a gift to the Repugs....

Still, I can't believe he would put his children through the grueling experience of stumping for him, with the full knowledge it was all for naught.

Anyway, this should make for a very interesting thread with lots of "deleted messages."

18. Thats The Dumbest thing I ever heard....

When John Kerry saw it fit to concede his race for Presidency on
Novemeber 3, 2004, he defiantely made a controversial decision. He
was called a trader for not appealing to Election fraud, but look at
him now. He had a plan from the very first second he saw Ohio fall.
Hes now fighting for us and for Election reform so that my first
vote will actually count. Hes continuing the effort to make health
care a right, not a privelagae to all Americans. He's defending our
counrty by refusing to allow a war monger become the next Secratary
of State, John Kerry is fighting for us.

John
Kerry
President
2008

19. Don't believe it.
Look at his record. He wasn't bought off. Here are some reasons we know that

-he creamed bush at all three debates. If he were paid off, he wouldn't have killed Bush
-he almost cried while conceeding
-he said something about the Neocons being the crookedest, lyingist...when he thought his mike was off. Would someone who believed that really take a dive?
-He campaigned hard? He could've done much much less if he were trying to take a dive.

I'm sure there are more.

25. I don't believe that Kerry was paid off by the Pubs
I believe that Kerry and Bush are basically working for the "same guy". And that no matter who was elected there was an agenda that had to be preserved. I believe that there are differences between Bush and Kerry in certain issues and that Kerry would have bought the country more time while he fought some things out with Congress... I also believe that Kerry may have actually won the election as well. That all being said, Kerry was following orders and wasn't EVER going to be our champion. I really feel sorry for people that believe Kerry was actually going to SAVE US. Kerry still would have been a better choice overall though, now we really look like assholes to the rest of the world. Now we have to deal with 4 more years of a stupid asshole in the WH with an evil agenda. I just hope that our country can survive these next 4 years and that somewhere, somehow our knight in shining armour comes riding up and saves us AND I hope that we are smart enough to recognize him/her and to put that person in office by whatever means necessary.

29. There will always be "conspiracy theories"
...

But, remember, Kerry is still a New England aristocrat of the old "noblesse oblige" school.

They just don't get down and dirty in the mud like us "Meat Eatin - Gun Tootin' Lefties" in our pick up trucks.

Besides - today with 24 hour cable news, and blogs, etc. -- any campaign (even dog catcher) is a 24 by 7 exercise in a public colonoscopy. You don't volunteer unless you are serious.

31. John Kerry it seems simply did not wish to be president bad....
...enough both while he was campaigning and after the election results started coming in when he went right by Edward's midnight pep rally and gave his early concession speech. If Kerry wanted to be president he would still be in there fighting for it. So now he can resign himself to be a good senator and after his term is over he can just fade away.

35. its amazing how simple minded ppl are
its like the only thing you pay attention to is that Kerry conceded early. you must block out the fact that he was nearly in tears at his concession speech, or that he is fighting for an investigation into election fraud, or that hs trying to make healthcare a right to all Americans not a priveleage.

John Kerry is continuing Fighting For Us, what did you want him to get fat and grow a beard and hide out like the guy who ran 4 years ago?

It is all part of the illusion, but the truth is that there is only one force governing all of us and Bush/Kerry are part of the same team.

Off-the wall conspiracy theory, yes...but actions speak louder than words and it looks to me that Kerry has been leading us on and jerking us around from day one.

But then again, I'm probably wrong. Take it however you want.
