The Cobb-LaMarche Campaign
Working to Make Every Vote Count!
----------------------------------
Dear Friends,
On Thursday, January 20, fourteen days after the historic street protest
and objection to the Ohio Electors in the Joint Session of Congress, the
Presidential inauguration and counter-inauguration took place in the
nation's Capitol. If you were not there and your only source of news
was the mainstream news media, you don't know what really happened on
that day.
In this report I've tried to accurately portray what I witnessed in the
streets of Washington DC. I make no pretension of objectivity in my
perspective of the last election and the character of our President and
the Republican leadership in Congress. They are dangerous and the
democratic tradition of our country is being challenged.
Since the report includes photograghs and short video clips that would
take up too much of your time to download in an email, I've created a
webpage and linked to it for those who want to read the report. Please
pass it on and post it wherever you feel it would be appropriate.

January 20, 2005 DC Report
the unreported news of inauguration day

Visible Resistance to Bush Grows Geometrically in Fourteen Days
Protesters dominated the crowds over most of the Inaugural Parade Route Between the Capitol Building and the White House on January 20, 2005
In my last report, I described the events of January 6, 2005, surrounding the certification of the Electoral College vote by the Joint Session of Congress, the historic objection to the acceptance of the Ohio slate of electors by both House and Senate members and the poignant and potent protest march and rally that ensued outside, on the streets of the Capitol.
Fourteen days later, for the activities surrounding George W. Bush's second inauguration, it's necessary, again, to begin by noting that this is the news report you did not see on the evening news or in your local daily newspaper. So far, these events have received news coverage as fraudulent as the election itself. In fairness, there has been more mainstream news coverage of the inauguration protests than I have learned to expect in the last few months. Thursday night following the inauguration ceremony the evening news on FOX and MSNBC in the Washington DC area did report on some of the protest activity along the route of the Inaugural Parade on Pennsylvania Ave and to some extent, elsewhere. But, in these reports, the protests were grossly under-stated and subject to subtle ridicule to portray a false impression of smaller proportion and intensity than the undeniable reality. The Friday morning Washington Post relegated most of the protest news to the second section, leaving the major photos and headlines on the front page to the contrived official inaugural proceedings. This is not news. The meaningless pomp, with the incongruous pretension of "unity" within our country on this day, belongs in the Style section along with news of celebrity marriages and divorces. The paid and invited Extras filling the Capitol Plaza, supplying polite applause on queue, is not news.
