Along with Boxer and Dayton, Democrats voting against Rice were Daniel Akaka of Hawaii, Evan Bayh of Indiana, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Richard Durbin of Illinois, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Edward Kennedy and John Kerry of Massachusetts, Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, Carl Levin of Michigan and Jack Reed of Rhode Island.

Akaka, Byrd, Dayton and Kennedy face re-election next year. Dayton, who used the sharpest language against Rice during yesterday's floor debate, is the only of the four expected to face major Republican opposition. Jeffords also faces little expected opposition if he seeks re-election from Vermont. Two Republicans, Senators Judd Gregg of New Hampshire and Conrad Burns of Montana, did not vote.

Henry Clay, 1825: Only Henry Clay in 1825 received more votes in opposition to his nomination as secretary of state, winning confirmation by a vote of 27-14, said Don Ritchie, associate historian of the Senate. Before Rice, the second-highest total was the seven votes cast against Henry Kissinger in 1973, Ritchie said.

Clay had been a candidate for president in 1824, when nobody won a majority of the electoral votes and the election was decided by the House of Representatives. Clay, who finished fourth, threw his support to John Quincy Adams, helping him win.

This is our power base for the final goal of voter verifiable paper ballots election reform.
Today, Condeleeches Rice was confirmed as our new Secretary of State despite the open proof of lies and incompetence. Only these moral Senators voted Nay to reflect that abomination. They are fighting hard for us and our needs and should be thanked. Below are email contacts for them and the letter I sent. I also plan on sending out letters to the Democrats who know she is a lying mistake and still confirmed her in spite of this. I believe it is time to start finding our support base and letting those who are harming this country, through their cowardice or self preservation, know in no uncertain terms that we do not want them any longer as our elected officials.

Dear Senator,

Thank you for defending this country today against the monstrosity of this lying and incompetent administration. You have restored my faith in the representative process. I will remember your courage and conviction from today's actions. I will also remember those Democrats who are responsible for helping to vote this disaster into the office of Secretary of State. I am at a loss as to their suicidal agenda of self preservation. We, their constituents, do not want compromise nor acceptance from our elected officials. We must protect this country and their continuing inability to do so will inform them soon enough of our distaste.

It was unforgivable, the actions of yay votes for a proven liar and incompetent from our own Democratic party. We need a coalition of Democrats now, that respects and honors the wishes of this huge and ever growing grassroots movement. A movement that is storming this Country.
