OH NO! We need to nip this in the butt IMMEDIATELY!
Was watching SOTU on MSNBC. After the Democratic response, Tweety said that the highpoint emotionally was when the Mother of the soldier that was killed in Iraq gave her son's dogtags to an Iraqi woman who was there representing the brave voters (purple finger and all).

She absolutely did NOT give the dog tags to the Iraqi woman. It was plain as day, even on the replay MSNBC showed, that the Mother had the tags clutched in her hand, chain dangling, and when she hugged the Iraqi woman the chain got caught in the Iraqi woman's shirt cuff (or jacket) button.

I wonder how many times Tweety is going to "put this out there" until it becomes accepted as fact. I am emailing hardball right now!

Anybody else see/hear this BS other than me?

5. So Glad You Posted!!!!
I'm sitting in my living room thinking Chris Mathews is an idiot and thousands of people are going to think that this heroic mom gave those tags away. I saw them in her hand once the hug was over. Is Mathews an idiot? He's blind and has a mouth that speaks before seeing.

If so, maybe she was silent protestor. OK, I admit, it's a long shot.

YOU GOT IT WRONG - WATCH THAT CLIP AGAIN!
Hey Chris,

You'd better watch that clip of the soldier's mother and the Iraqi woman again... maybe in slow mo!
The mother DID NOT give her tags to the Iraqi woman, the chain got caught in a button on the Iraqi woman's jacket or shirt cuff!

STOP SPREADING UNTRUTHS!

"Chris,

At the SOTU address, the soldier's mother did NOT give her son's dogtags to the Iraqi woman. Sorry, but it did NOT happen! The chain from the dog tags got caught in a button on the Iraqi woman's jacket. The chains were tangled up.

What mother would give away her dead son's dogtags? I mean, seriously, Chris - think about it.

Issue a retraction, Chris. Your viewers know that you wouldn't knowingly spread propaganda for the Bush administration. Would you?

Tell the truth, Chris. Issue a retraction. NPR and Mike Malloy have already started "correcting" stories like yours.

24. I can't even compose a decent email anymore but here's is what
I sent him...

Dear Mr. Mathews,

How low can you sink? There was symbolism in what ACTUALLY happened. It was in fact very symbolic when the soldiers dog tags got CAUGHT on the sleeve of the Iraqi woman.

While I support our American soldiers and believe they are all the bravest of the brave and true American patriots, I ALSO believe they have been caught up in a Bush lie that they cannot escape.

Personally, I think it is disgraceful for our president to USE a grieving American mother to somehow legitimize the lies he told this nation so that he could kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians and INSTALL his version of democracy. I also think it is disgraceful that the same woman (Laura Bush) that had another dead American soldier's mother ARRESTED because she wore a shirt asking "why?" was allowed to sit any where near a mother that has sacrificed so much for Laura's husbands war of greed and DELUSION. Did you notice, the soldiers mother REFUSED to touch Laura's hand? I can't say I blame her!

The heil bushitler thing with the purple fingers was DISGRACEFUL! I cannot even begin to imagine what lonely and grieving mothers across this nation must have felt about that!

Get your "facts" straight or get your eyesight checked!

10. Yes, absolutely you are correct.
There was NO dog tag handoff. It was a just a stupid "I'm freakin' caught on your clothing on National Teevee" moment. Let's not let Tweetey co-opt it as ANYTHING else.

13. We all need to email this bullshitter
If we the people call bullshit when it's put out there, then our politicians will stand a better chance in the long run.

Think about it - that BS gets rotated from show to show. We hear it or see it and shake our heads. Later on, this type of BS gets used against our candidates. They have to spend precious time refuting these types of lies.

So, we need to "correct" these poor, misguided souls before this type of shit can spread.

I've written Chris and would ask that everyone else do so as well.

greenmutha is right. We have to nip this in the bud. Nip it!!

after he said JK had never spoken about minimum wage, etc. I suggested he hang up his reporter shoes and become a pundit like Russ or Ann Coulter if he's going to spout propaganda like that. I suspect he's getting a lot of emails these days, all of them well-deserved.

16. Dana Stevens blogged the sotu for SLATE...
... and it only took her a few minutes to recognize the hoax and set the record straight. She should get some kind of award for her quick thinking!
Here's what Stevens wrote, in part:
. . .
"On both Fox and MSNBC immediately following the speech, the talking heads initially misinterpreted this gesture, saying that Mrs. Norwood had GIVEN her son's dogtags to the Iraqi woman.
"Chris Matthews' first follow-up comment as Bush left the podium: 'I don't think any words the president spoke could match the moment when he looked up and watched Janet Norwood give the dogtags of her dead son to that Iraqi woman tonight.'
"At the time, this struck me as odd; would a grieving mother really give such a significant object away to a complete stranger, especially after she had, essentially, already given the life of her own son? What would it even mean to hand over her son's dogtags, and who in their right mind would accept such a gift?
"Re-watching the encounter, I was relieved to see that, post-hug, Mrs. Norwood was still firmly clutching the tags in her hand."
. . .
How many here think certain strategically-placed "pundits" may have gotten a BULL-etin concerning the hug and the hand-off -- and announced it just from their reliance upon what they'd been told ahead of time would happen?
Wouldn't that be FAITH-BASED REPORTING? How much of it is going on that we don't know about???

21. Did he refer to the Iraqi woman as "the Iraqi voter" or did he
use her name? Doesn't she have a name, isn't she entitled to the respect of being called by her name just as Mrs. Norwood was?

Or is it that black woman who is the SOS or that hispanic man that is the AG. Are they just props?

Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 06:29 PM by KerryOn
.. on Good Morning America this morning, and she still ad her sons dog tags.

During this part of the State Of The Union address, I almost threw my drink glass at the TV. I was so steaming mad I ended up shuting the TV off at this point. What PR bull!

Why dosen't president Bush read the letter of the woman that got arrested at one of his campaign speaches. She was carried out and arrested because she told the truth about her son dying in vain because Bush lied about the reasons for going to war!

Bush Lied and people died.
