Excellent full-page ad from Not In Our Name - mentions fraud.

A full-page ad appearing in newspapers today from Not In Our Name is
a strong and clear statement about war, torture, and fraud. It is a very encouraging sign of the growth of the anti-* movement's reach and power.

Not In Our Name

As George W. Bush is inaugurated for a second term, let it not be said that people in the United States silently acquiesced in the face of this shameful coronation of war, greed, and intolerance. He does not speak for us. He does not represent us. He does not act in our name.

No election, whether fair or fraudulent, can legitimize criminal wars on foreign countries, torture, the wholesale violation of human rights, and the end of science and reason.

15. Would like your reaction to my rant below (#11)
Understandinglife (and others), see comment #11 below. I am distressed when the language used in our own side's large-scale and highly visible communications about how bad Bush is minimizes the fact that he rules only by stealing the franchise -- twice. As admirable as this ad was and as easy as it was for me to sign for so many reasons, it still frustrated me that the ad mentions "... intimidating and disenfranchising thousands of African American and other voters..." when -- in truth -- it was 4.3 to 5.0 million votes stolen and perhaps another one to two million deterred from even being cast, much less counted.

This is one issue we need to accelerate (in terms of more aggressive and open communication) and crystallize (in terms of understanding and acceptance) among the American people now. If we continue to work to "frame" this growing debate as one that should center -- at least in large part -- around a stolen election and a disregard for the "consent of the governed", we will accomplish much. To minimize the consequences of the Repugs' onslaught on the voting process to "thousands" of votes impacted is wrong on so many levels, including that it is not reality-based.

Our reality isn't about a few thousand, it's about 250 million to one odds. It's about odds in the trillions for some combinations of disconnects between exit polls and the "reported" vote in many impacted states. It's about 4.3 million votes "... falling off the truck..." in Freeman's analysis. So whenever we choose to speak -- as individuals and as progressive organizations -- about the fundamental wrongheaded, cynical and soulless nature of our current "leader" (sic), I just hope and pray that we will always speak loudly and clearly the truth about this election theft and our collective demand for election justice. I'd enjoy hearing what you think.

11. One not-so-small problem with the ad. When will our side get it right?
I signed the letter, but I have real problems with the following phrase in the letter:

"... while intimidating and disenfranchising thousands of African American and other voters at home...."

It wasn't "thousands" who were disenfranchised, it was MILLIONS. And yet this is at least the sixth statement I have seen, from progressive spokespeople, who concede that Bush won the election "fair and square." He sure the hell didn't, when Freeman, TIA, EIRS and many other researchers have documented untoward and unexplained shifts in the vote that are statistically impossible to be explained by random variations in polling methods and which range from 4.3 to 5.0 million votes.

Why do our own spokespeople continue to make this fraudulent statement, which flies in the face of the evidence that DUers are very familiar with now and which 30% of the American people now believe also? Why are our spokespeople still so misinformed, months after the evidence of election theft is available to all of us? Why not say what we mean and mean what we say -- that George Bush holds office illegitimately and only because his thugs tampered with the franchise? Why does this truth -- so self-evident to anyone who has looked at the evidence -- continue to befuddle or remain unrecognized and unspoken by people who are in the public eye or who can afford to be there with full-page ads? It bothers me and pisses me off a bit also.

To be clear, I signed the letter because there is a great deal in it that I agree with. But, folks, I'm not upset because "thousands" of voters were disenfranchised (though that would be upsetting enough.) I am damn mad because the majority of the American people voted to oust Bush and his thugs prevented that from happening by fucking with our franchise. Anyone who doesn't understand that and can't find a way to say it clearly, unequivocally and with abundant evidence to back it up needs to hand the bully pulpit over to others who have no problem saying that the election was stolen and that Bush retains power through election theft of MILLIONS of votes, not thousands.

Now to go prune berries and take this anger out on defenseless plants.

NO ELECTION JUSTICE -- NO PEACE (OR QUIET).
IF YOU CAN'T SAY "ELECTION THEFT", HAND THE MEGAPHONE TO SOMEONE WHO CAN -- AND WILL.

Peace, out.

18. RIGHT ON ! You are correct. It was millions
And it wasn't just African Americans or any one group- it was most of us who put our votes into partisan machines that were rigged. Blue states, red states- it happened all over the place and it is fraud. Sure there was massive disenfranchisement outwardly- no question about it. Massive, systematic disenfranchisement occurred outwardly in Ohio, in Florida, in Nevada, in PA and in many states. But the real fraud was done quietly, efficiently and under the radar. In those electronic machines.

I too signed and I loved seeing the ad which ran in the Times just after the coronation (I posted it here at that time) and is now making it's way around the country. But someone- perhaps all of us- should write to them and ask that they change the wording there because it is incorrect.

I will not get over it. I will not get over it. I will NEVER get over it. Fraud is fraud. Period. Arrest them. Put them on trial. Let the world know. It was rigged.

Again.

19. Thanks. I wrote "Not In My Name" and shared my above post with them.
We need to correct any misrepresentation of the scale of the election theft any time it appears, and especially when it appears in statements that come from our side. Millions of our votes "fell off the truck", not thousands. And we need to keep saying it until WE (at least) get it right.
