Organize the Democratic Party the 'old fashioned' way
In order to get our party more organized and to be able to educate more about the issues and 'be the media' I'm wondering if we should step back and have an old fashioned reorganizing plan. I see so much frustration here from people who need help getting the word out about issues that are so important and need to taken care of 'yesterday'. I'm proposing those of us who read here begin with our county level democratic chair and start planning quarterly meetings to get as many democrats across America on board with all the issues that need attention and to simply get out the real news to as many people as possible.
Before the election I went to a dem function, one of the presidents of a group in our county went around the room and wrote down e-mail addresses of those who wanted information about future meetings. With that simple step we were connected. Is it possible that for our first quarterly meeting the county dem chair (with help) can mail postcards to dems in the county to invite them to what will be more like a 'block party'? The goal for that first meeting will be to tell everyone of efforts to organize the party and keep everyone informed and up to date with issues that will affect us state and nationwide. The main idea will be to get e-mail and snail mail addresses so that anything that needs to be addressed can be in the time it takes to write a quick e-mail and send to all on the list. Having the snail mail addresses will ensure that any attempts to close down communication through the internets whether temporary or permanent won't hinder our process.
I hope this is making sense, I have no idea how difficult it will be to organize this. I tend to think of things too simplistically but I imagine that if we get as many people on board across America as possible we can have the Democratic Information SuperHighway (too bad Dish is taken). I'm hoping the end result would be an educated and informed party. We are the media.

1. DFA meetups
That's what's going on now. Find one. Get involved. This is how we will take the party back from the corporate hacks.

3. Thank you. That's PRECISELY what he needs to do.
His good ideas for taking over the Dem Party (which they've already made a real darn good start on) can be put into effect there.

6. I'm just one person
I'm a she by the way : ). I don't know what FDA is but going there gives one person direction. I'm here because I already know that I need to scratch below the surface, I'm talking about the millions who don't know and have to be spoon fed, trying to come up with a way to get as many of them on board as possible. I'll check out the link, thanks.

2. Baby steps happening over here...
The r's are way ahead of us in fundraising and IT. We just did a mailing to all registered dems asking for donations specifically for developing communications as you suggest. Good for you for attending your local meetings...boring ya, but it's where we have to be to start to take our country back.
I agree, be the media...please keep me updated on your community and I will do the same. We are getting there!
Not a moment too soon!
Aloha

4. Yes, DFAs. And others too...
There are also former Kerry Meetups deciding to "continue" as autonomous groups who simply want to be networked together. Also, Prog. Dems of America is "on the move." Check out their Allies and Partners list for something near you.

You can also lead a "revolt" among your local "regular Dems."

The thing about the Dem "traditional party structure" is that, by definiton, it is encumbered by a history of doing things a certain way and often by certain people. This is not all bad, it's just that we need more from the non-fascist majority.

There is a growing number of people who don't just complain about what "they" should be doing. They get going and start doing it themselves. If "they" should decide to come along (and they often do), that's great. If not, they just tap the legions of formerly-apathetic or cynical that just want to "do something."

We have a word for these folks: deanpeople.
